WOW 8O
Oh my goodness! 8O

Thats not unheard of here....but sheesh!
I understand you fellings, but you have now just made the snow god made. Now it will snow here too. Take heart it will leave in six months.
I don't even want to think about that word for about 3 more months. SHHHHHHHHHHH!
Lovely spring day here, 24c :P What's snow? Novelty here we have to travel 3 hours from Melbourne to play in it.

We had a good snow season, but prefer it up in the Mountains then all the time around the house, sheepie girls hate wet feet.
Oh my gosh, I can't believe you have a chance of snow already!!!!!!!!!!! I have been dying for winter, but not sure about snow (yet)!!!!!!!1
I LOVE WINTER- and SNOW. I may be one of the few that envy your Alaskan forecast!
Wow! I'd rather have my 105 degree weather than snow.
I love 100 & the beach, or 15 and lots of snow. Could live without the months of ice we had last winter though...........Kathy
SNOW 8O :sidestep:
You can have it!!!!!
We're celebrating our first day under 90 degrees in six weeks. :go:
Just woked up peek outside NO snow :yay: BUT the mountains around us has snow and it can saty there. Last year in Oct we had 48 inchs in 2 days a record. My kids never seen that much before(and it never went away). Now that was a snow day and of course it happened on a Saturday. Hmmm last time it snowed here like that I was 10.
Geez, let me enjoy Autumn first! I've to get my fill in of apples, pumpkins, cider, falling leaves, and of course obligiatory autmunal yard work before I think of that evil S word!!! We shouldn't HAVE to worry about that until November, but MN weather can be tricky!
Temps finally getting reasonable here, 80's and nights in the 50's. Just wonderful. Wish it would last until January where I'll accept two months of winter and then move into Spring. Alas, I never get my wish.......
Good thing no snow yet!
We had a freeze warning here last night, but it didn't freeze - Yay :!:
just checked only 3 and they are still calling for snow. i'm going to post pics of the mountains and snow later.
Oh, I'd LOVE snow right now. But like Tammy said, we're having our first non 90+ degree day, so it's hard to complain too much. Plus a lot of the humidity is gone, so it's not too bad.
Wish we had it...97degrees now...I want to live where it snows and the leaves change colors.

That's crazy talk! Enjoy what you have. I'll take heat over suffering through icy winds, freezing rain and scraping windows in the morning any day . Booooooo!
I refuse. I have lived in California all my life and am planning a move to Colorado in the next few years. I am getting too old to be hot all of the time, and when it gets over 100 degrees I want to kill something. Besides, it's too hot for sheepies!
LOL! You are going backwards! As you get older you move to warmer climates, not colder. There's nothing glamorous about scraping ice, shoveling snow, icy roads, slush, icy walks, whiteout conditions, falling on your bum, eye leashes freezing, nose dripping....well, never mind. I can understand wanting to leave So. California before the Big One!
It's really too expensive to live out here. I think we have outgrown our house, and we could have 2 more bedrooms and 2 more bathrooms somewhere else...as long as we head East of here. Anyway, it has always benn my husbands first choice, his mom was from there. We won't move to the ski resorts!

Me too!! I've been in TX for my ENTIRE life and I would love love love to be somewhere with calendar picturesque seasons. Autumn is so beautiful and I would love to see all of the leaves change colors. Colorado would be pretty. I'm hoping to be in North Carolina some day.
As a person who grew up on the East Coast, I can say winter SUCKS!!!
I much prefer the Desert. Raking leaves sucks, shoveling snow sucks.

I can always go back and visit, but I am so glad I don't have to deal with that anymore. :D
I love snow over getting into a car and my face literally turning into a prune and it hurting so much from the heat. Then not being able to take a step w/o sweating or having your lotion run down your leg. Finding all kinds of icky things die in your garage b/c they've suffocated from the heat or everything changing colors that you put near the window. I'm going to miss AK weather if we leave!!! 8)

I am not sure I'd like a winter that's always windy though, but I haven't experienced that here.

Amen Sister......No way NO how, could you pay me to move back to that freezing hell-hole.......oops did i say that out loud

yeah yeah, i know, i know.....but i really just do like complaining....i mean how often do you get to hear about someones space heater not pumping out enough heat in 50-60 degree weather??!!
So funny that you're liking Alaska weather now Joah!

This is a wonderful season here...temps in the 40s-50s, leaves turning, berries ripe, termination dust on the mountains...sigh....I wish it lasted longer. I got out in our back acreage today and picked highbush cranberries. I really want to get out where the blueberries are! Only a little time before the white stuff covers everything.
Part of the reason Joan and I traveled the ENTIRE country was we were looking for a place to move to when we retire.

After 26,000 miles in the HappieCamper and 10,000+ miles in the HappieDinghy we chose...

OK, we didn't choose. However, we liked Haines, Alaska A LOT. Except there's not much medical care available, so we had to rule it out.

So we asked ourselves -- why did we choose Haines? The answer? We finally realized that along with some other aspects, it was most like New England. LOL

Soooo....there ya have it.

Just remember ladies, no matter wherever you run, you'll still be there when you get there.
Hush EJ...Now you'll have all those 'Mericans thinking Canada is a land of ice and snow! Sheesh and I've been bragging for years about how it RARELY snows where I live. :D

Um did I mention our weather only a mere province away had temperatures of 90 here today? 8)

Ron, maybe retire in BC?

EJ you can come and visit anytime too!!! :D

I'll trade you!! As much as I love the changing of leaves and the potential for snow out here, I'll take California any day! The summers out here just suck.
Wait until you get a $500.00+ electric bill and you only run your A/C for 4 days. Then you might understand why I long for cooler weather. :)

At least you have AC. My parents don't and were DYING in that heat spell a few weeks ago.
One man's (woman?) meat is another man's poison!

I think it just boils down to individual preferences. Some people love the snow and some people hate it. Hopefully, at some point, everyone will get a chance to live in the climate that they want.

Did anyone ever watch Gilmore Girls? It was set in Connecticut and it was the most beautiful little town! They definitely had 4 distinct seasons. And in the winter, they had a winter carnival and a snowman-making contest, and beautiful Christmasses (what's the plural for X-mas??)! That doesn't seem wonderful?! I want to live there! Maybe some places just get too much snow. I have a friend from Minnesota, and she said you get frost bite if you walk outside for 2 seconds.
My electric bill is currently $355 a month, level billing.
Mine is always under $200. And that includes running the AC and/or heat. And a 20 yr old electric water heater!

Do you have a giant house or uninsulated house? Or is electric just that much more expensive there? To be honest, I guess I never thought about the price of utilities varying in other states but it makes sense.
BC, and Alberta BIG difference. Northern ALberta I may add. We live in the mountains so we get the weirds weather I mean summer fall winter spring CAN happen in one day. Once in Grande Prairie 2 hours away --35 and here it was +5 in Feburay. 8O But we do get schnooks and you gotta like those ALOT. _5 this morning BUT no snow. Weather forcasting nice job, it really does not matter that your wrong or right. Hopefully my brother does not read this thats what he does. :P

Im gonna have to look up my gas (heating) bill for last January! 8O
Everything is more expensive in Calif, and my house is worse than most. We have tried everything. We just can't figure out why.
I think your first step is to call the utility explain the situation and ask them if their meter has been tested. They might even have a free (or reduced cost) energy audit that might help.

Do you know how many KWh you used that month? Do you know your price per KWh?

Do you have a "dehumidifier" or a basement heater running?

We can figure this out! :D
Been there, done that. They say my meter runs fine. I asked them to replace it but, no go. I have all new appliances (Energy Star). We usually only run a swamp cooler and ceilings fans. Even without the A/C running my bill last month was $300.00+.
I rarely use the heater in Winter because we use the fireplace (wood). We don't have any more stuff going than the average family of 4. We have 3 pc's, but they spend a lot of time in sleep mode. My last thing to do is to unplug everything in the house and yard and see if the meter still spins. That is a daunting job to me...so I guess I will keep kvetching about it until we move someplace else.

I really think it is the meter, but SCE does nothing but argue, and I don't feel the need to fill myself with emotional poison. We will move in a few years anyway. My husband meets the retirement criteria in less than 2 yrs. He want's to go to Colorado too. Not everywhere there is blizzard all the time!
Do you have neighbor's that have comparable homes that you feel comfortable asking about their usage?
Yup. They seem to use way more...running A/C etc. and my bill is usually higher. I'm doomed to dealing with SCE until we move. No sense in moving around here...still Calif.
our bills have gone crazy over the past few years, now I do budget plan and pay a flat fee, same year round, and no surprises, I do not think I could handle it. 8O
Shut off everything in your house, including the refrigerator.

Then look at the meter and see if it is still spinning. If it is, start at your circuit breaker and shut off circuits until the spinning slows substantially. If you have an electric water heater, start with that.

Don't forget to turn your fridge back on!
Can't do it now. Everything has to be unplugged...they still draw. It will take my whole family to do this, and my husband works at home on the pc. The water heater is gas, as is the stove, and heater. If I ever get some cooperation here...we will do that test. There are some plugs in places I can't even get to.

Thanks for the advice though Ron. I am just wiped being the unpaid taxi service for two teenagers. We have our first puppy class tonight for the little terror...Nigel.
We also have the cycling box on the AC that we don't use, at least we get a break for that.
finally got this uploaded. This was the snow we got the other day it was also on the other mountain but melted by the time I got photos

What a view! :D I love it!
Stuck in flat southern MN, this is my view from last winter

That is the view from your street?? Wow! How beautiful!
The pics are lovely, but my husband would slit his wrists if winter in Illinois started this early. He is already freaking out about colder weather, and it is supposed to be 90 degrees tomorrow! 8O

I really think he has Seasonal Affect Disorder, as I have never seen anything like the abrupt change in his personality that accompanies the change in weather. He is usually fine through the holidays, as there is so much going on, but on Dec. 26th, he turns into Surly Man. Thank God we spend a few weeks in Florida in February and March, so he has something to look forward to! If it weren't for his large, Greek family here in the Chicago area, he would drag me to Florida in a heartbeat!

The pic is off my balcony. From my front window better mountain veiw, My digital stopped downloading to the computer. My daughter is going to download on hers and send to me later today, then I will post those, they are nice. When you live here you get use to the mountains its when you leave when you realize how nice it is. On the pic above there is actually 2 mountains the first one my son and all of grade 6 had to be recued from there in June on a school 3 nite camping trip. With all the snow and heat then rain the rivers washed out all the bridges they had to get across 2 of them before recueing(fire and recue) them on quads(which are not aloud there) they had to leave their paks because they were out weighting the kids. With all the rain. The hike down is usually 2 hours it took them 7 hours. Two hours was just spent getting all the kids across one river. Needless to Daxton had not gone camping again not even in the backyard.
This picture is from our shopping center area
Image
This is Smokey River you can go river rafting there. We were to do that this year but the water was to high and the kids could not go 18+ only.
[Image
This is Sulfer River and Smokey River becoming one at Sulfer Ridge aka hell's gates On the right you can get there very easy and look down, very freaky if ya scared of heights. towards the back of pic is were the kids get drop off for their grade 6 hike. It is the park after that and no motorized equpiment passed that.

What a beautiful place to live :)

We've had below 0 temps a few nights now and I am pretty sure we'll see snow this week sometime. I love the first snow! :)
And when there's lots of snow, no more muddy sheepdog feet! 8O
Wow what a gorgeous area where you live. :D

Poor us we have lovely spring sunshine now :P

Weird how our seasons are completely opposite to you.
Wow... those are beautiful pictures!

Any way you could send of the snow over here?
It is getting cooler and cooler here way to fast. Last year ago we had our first snow and a new family from South Africa and never seen snow. Their little girl (11) could not sit still in school they let the whole class out to play in it for her, before it melted.
