Interested in adding a Sheepie to my Maltese family

You all will probably think I am totally nuts, but I currently have 3 babies (all Maltese) and I'm seriously considering adding a Sheepie to my family. I think they are wonderful dogs even though I am basing my thoughts on pictures of Sheepies. My three Maltese are definitely family and their names and ages are: Lily (7); Daisy (5) and Sweet Pea (1-1/2)--anyone seeing a recurring theme yet?

I would like to receive feedback on:

how easy do Sheepies acclimate themselves into an existing family (dog and otherwise)?

I was an only child growing up and always wanted to have brothers and sisters. I felt their families were much more fun. I guess that is why I love my dogs and have room for at least one more. If I had to put a picture with the word "fun", it would definitely be a Sheepie.

What would you consider a fault of the Sheepie?

Are they friendly (they certainly look like they are)?

If I'm nuts about taking this walking grooming, vet care, food, and potty accidents known as a Sheepie, please don't hesitate to say so. I'm an Aquarius. I typically jump/plunge headlong into things, without given little or no thought about consequences. I guess that's the reason I am engaged to a wonderful man who makes sure there is plenty of water in the pool when I decided to take the plunge.

I will be checking other info. on Sheepies also but would love any insights you have to offer.

Thank you so much.

I have a Maltese and a sheepie and they get along BEAUTIFULLY. Please click on my camera to see my boys (you'll have to wade through some extraneous pics as well).

Tasker is almost 12 and Ty (Maltese) is 2 1/2 and they have gotten along since day one. Ty is DEFINATELY the boss. I love both breeds and am not sure I could pic a "favorite".

The only thing I will say is that due to the size disparity I am very vigalante about safety. Tasker and Ty rough house and roll and play like crazy, it very seldom gets "out of hand. I know my big guy would never intentionally hurt his little brother but I do make sure that I am always keeping an eye on them. I NEVER leave them alone together. When I am at work or even just running out to get the mail I seperate them by a fence or a crate.

It's great fun to have them and I would never hesitate to recommend adding a sheepie to your family. THere is another sheepie on the board who also had a Maltese and a Sheepie and I'm sure she has some words of wisdom.

I have a toy poodle 3 and 11 month oes and and 10 weeks oes. Poodle gets a long with 11 month great. The pup though she can take or leave, he wants to play but also barks at her, when he stops barking they get along great. AND they are just like kids, stealing toys, wanting attention, who sits by who. But they do not talk back. WEll almost.
By all means! We have a 2 1/2 yr old sheepie at 70 lbs and she is "big sister" to a 7 lb. Chihuahua, an 11 lb. rat terrier and a 20 lb. heinz-57. Sadie assumed the role of caretaker, though Lizzie the Chihuahua is the boss and everyone else knows it! Sadie is very careful and very gentle with them when they are playing. It is hiliarious to see them playing chase! Like Tasker's mom, we keep a careful eye when they are playing though there has never been a reason for alarm. They are best buddies and if we are away, they all sleep together in the laundry room. If one of the dogs happens to be away for the day (like a trip to the vet) the others are all mopey until the one comes home. Our neighbors have a maltese and Sadie doesn't seem to think there is any difference with her than our "other siblings."

We are fairly new to this breed and love the personality! Best dog I think we have ever had!!! At first it did seem like there was lot's of grroming, but I think we have that under control with a shorter hair-do. Learn all you can about sheepies and I think you will have success. Do you plan to show? If not there are always rescues needing good homes. Sadie was a rescue and we could not be happier. Click on our camera and you can see what she looked like - and what she looks like now. We are definitely in love with her!

I hope you will join the forum (it's free). There are lots of great posts from people "in the know."
We dont have a smaller dog but we do have a 4yo German shepherd, an OES, two inside kitties and two outdoor kitties (they hang around so we feed them) Well our oes gets along great with the cats. One actually looks just like him and is almost just as fuzzy. He thinks our OES is his mother for some reason and always snuggles up to him. Beauford doesnt seem to mind much but he's a pussy cat deep down inside :D:D:D:D
