Shedding !!!

We have two Old English. For the last two months they have been shedding in clumps. Last year only one of the dogs did it ......... now they both are. The only thing different is a food that is suppose to give them a healthy coat that I add to their regular food. I would point at that if last year they had the same food, but they did NOT. You can brush them and five minutes later find a big clump of hair on the carpet. They also have shed year round since we got them. Oliver is 5 yrs old and the Murphy is 3 yrs. old.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

From what I understand sheepdogs are supposed to shed in clumps, my last sheepdog did and Walter does as well. Maybe you are noticing it a lot now because they are getting ready for their winter coat?
Thank you for that information. I believe I have been under the misconception that OES's do not shed from my wife. She had an OES in the 70's and swore that it never shed.......... I failed to realize that she also said she would get it groomed every week for $5!!!!!! LOL

Thank you for you imput.
No, they really don't shed, but they will lose hair continually---get used to the daily brushin gand you'll see less of it! We called the clumps "Baby Sheepies"
I guess I'm somewhat confused - is this something new or have they always shed like this? :? They aren't typically shedding dogs - but they do loose their coat (it requires brushing to get it out usually). What I don't understand is why this would just be happening to them now - and you hadn't noticed this before. That's something I would look into further to see if this change in their coat is typical - or if this is resulting from something else (food changes, supplements, weather differences, etc.). Are they scratching themselves (possibly due to an allergy or fleas) where they are removing the clumps of hair ???

It's been a rough day - sorry if this doesn't make sense!

Oliver (5 yr. old) has always shed. Probably due to our poor grooming between professional grooms. Murphy (3 yrs. old)on the other hand started shedding in clumps last year and then stopped but still shed. Summer coat or winter I don't remember. This year however, for at least the last month or so they are both shedding in clumps . Some people say it is odd and others (like in the earlier post) say that all their OES's shed in clumps. :?

Just Dunno!

Thanks,
Neal

I hope today is better for you! You sound kind of stressed.
Just wanted to thank everyone for their imput about the shedding. I guess we will just keep brushing and vacuuming.

Have you quit adding the supplemental food to their diet? If you think it may be causing problems, withdraw it from their diet and see.

Abbi sheds in little clumps on a continuous basis, but not like you would really notice. I have heard that some OES have less of an over-coat and seem to shed more? curious.

I hate to mention this, but when my thryroid medicine is out of whack, I shed.

Some dogs "blow" their coat at 2-3 years of age, but that only last a couple of months at most.
Good Luck. And do not worry about it too much. As long as the dogs don't mind, it isn't life-threatenning.
Just check things out.
