Ladies: Bare Minerals Review...

Oh my gosh, I just tried it for the first time this morning, and it's the best!! I have never worn foundation because I don't like the way it feels, it being obvious I have it on, and many other things... no matter if I try very high-end or cheap stuff. It ends up getting thrown out (completely full).

Then I felt obligated to give it a try since all the ladies on my baby board wear it.

It's a powder-foundation that raves about how it looks like you got professionally air-brushed.

I swear it's like you have nothing on, but you totally look like you have the best skin. Plus, you can sleep in it since the minerals are so good and light on your skin (advertised not my opinion)!

Anyone else a fan?

I have never tried it, I saw the infomercial a couple of moths ago & was pretty impressed but thought it was to good to be true until the next Friday night my girlfriend & I were getting ready to go out & she shocked me when she broke out her make up bag (she has NEVER worn makeup before) then she proceeded to apply it ....it was truly amazing!

I so want some, but my Hubby thinks I spend to much money as it is right now so needless to say he won't be too thrilled if I spend the money on makeup... ..but I WILL get it
I got it for a lot cheaper on Ebay! First I went to the Bare Minerals website and determined what color I was...
I've worn it for years - I think since 2001-ish. Last year I switched to Everyday Minerals. It's got better coverage and colors, IMO, it's so much less expensive (I used to buy my Bare Minerals on ebay, too) and the shipping is super speedy. www.everydayminerals.com

Their brushes are better, too.
I passed on the link to some ladies on the baby board who mentioned $$ problems.

I have noticed that POWDER seems to be where make-up is going!! I saw some actress come up with the same thing yesterday. I'm just glad I'm in on it now after not believing for so long.
Is this stuff different than the Bare Escentials makeup? That's also a powder, mineral foundation. The only time I've used it was on my wedding day. The girl at the beauty parlor did my make-up, and I thought it was awful! It was sooo thick! When I smiled, it left a crease on my face where the smile had been! :o

I went home and washed my face and used my own foundation. (I left the eye makeup on though) Maybe she just used too much of it? Her face looked really made up too (...that should have been a hint. She was about 18 and said she was used to doing makeup for girls in beauty pageants).

Sephora sells the Bare Escentials line. Can you try the other kinds in person anywhere before you buy it? How do you know what color to get?
She probably put "too much" since it was your wedding day (most people put a lot on so pics look good) and you just had a crappy make-up artist.

It's supposed to be extremely light and not look like foundation at all! In fact, the minerals are just supposed to give you a natural glow like right after you run.

Bare escentuals line is called Bare Minerals, I believe?
Good timing, Joah. My sister just bought some about two weeks ago and has been trying it out. She's not sold on it yet, though, and I'm not sure I have noticed a difference in her skin since she started. I've been wondering if anyone else used it and likes it. I'm glad you're enjoying it.

I want to start looking for something new myself and this was on my list of ones I want to try.
Has anyone watched the QVC informercial/segment on it? I'm totally turning into my MIL

It actually says the amount you apply at a time shouldn't even show up on your brush because just a few specks go a long way! Then if you need more, layer, but don't fill your brush up (so you see powder on the brush).

You can also add in some mineral veil into the foundation to make it last longer.
I've always wondered about it. Thanks for the review.
I use Bare Escentuals (Bare Minerals) and I love it. It's too hot here to wear liquid makeup - the powder is a life saver. It's a bit pricey but it lasts forever if applied correctly (very little on the brush, buffed in). I've always been told that the Mineral Veil goes on over the foundation and blush to set it all, but I guess different makeup artists have different techniques. My new favorite product from them is Pure Radiance - you put it on over your blush and it gives you a bit of a glow - nothing too sparkly. I also love the fact that they keep coming out with new kits and products. You can get it at Sephora or Ulta so if you want to try it for free and figure out your shade of foundation, you can schedule a makeover.

The downside is - lots of jars! Foundation, blush, mineral veil, one jar for each eye shadow... lots of little jars.

Yes, Bare Escentuals is the Bare Minerals brand. Lordamighty, if it was THICK, that person had no clue how to use it. Nobody ever thinks I'm even wearing make up - and I wear a full face of foundation.
Some other reviews from the baby board:

A few of them think it's best for oily skin and does wonders since you aren't putting liquid glob on top of the icky pores.

They also love the eye shadow but I haven't tried it.

However, I just wanted to say I have dry to combination skin and use it.

I don't like lots of little jars either. The mineral veil literally MELTS on your face it seems. I like it but also didn't have a problem with my normal finishing powder.
I will have to go try it out. It sounds so much easier than liquid foundation, and I like that it's (supposed to be) good for your skin. If you have oily skin and you need to apply some powder during the day, can you use a normal compact of pressed powder? I can't see needing to freshen up during the day, so you just whip out a giant brush, a few jars, then dip, tap and swirl right at your work desk! That would be kind of embarassing!

I do have to say that I did like the eyeshadows! :)
My friend uses it and loves it. She's struggled for years with oily type skin problems.
I have been using this products for a few years too. I love the foundation and the mineral veil. I love that I can't feel the foundation on my face. I have a very bad habit of touching my face when I am thinking. I never found any foundation being transferred to my hand like other foundation would. The effect is so natural that you just look like you are born with smooth skin with even tone

I am also a dancer who sometimes perform on stage. When I need to do a stage make-up with it. I just need to apply one more layer. The trick is always apply only after you shake off the excess on the brush after swirling it on the powder. The coverage is excellent.

I have so far introduced this product to three friends who never wore any make-up. They are all hooked.

I don't really see anything special/difference for their other products like "Multi-Tasking Face" (Bronzer) or "All-Over Face Color" (illuminator) after applying them though. They eye make-up powder doesn't stay on either, even though I use their eye base/primer underneath it.
Never heard of this, but my friend sells this stuff, it's supposed to be great.

I love the way it feels ( Bare Minerals) and have been using it for several months now. I do wonder if I get enough coverage though. My Mom-who just had a face lift says that less is more.... Should I take the advise of someone who "pays" for their beauty?

Absolutely! Those are usually the people who are the most knowledgeable!

LOL- That she is!! :lmt:
I have dry skin and it works well for me. I put on my moisturizer (with SPF of course), wait for it to dry, then put on the powder. Personally I like the eyeshadow, but my color palette is always very neutral, because of my line of work. So I don't know how well the bright colors last. But for dark smoky eyes, it's great.

There's nothing better than shopping for beauty products
I love the stuff too! I don't think I could go back to foundation after wearing this stuff.

Yes, light is more! Often before applying the mineral veil, I'll take a clean brush and quickly go over my face to remove any excess foundation, apply the veil and then brush one last time. This removes anything that might get caught on a white blouse collar........very rare occurence with Bare Minerals.

I haven't mastered the eyebrow or eyeliner powder. As for eye shadow, I'm about evenly divided between theirs and my old compacts. Since I wear glasses it's no big deal.

I do wear moisturizer underneath often using the stuff with the little glittery bits in it.....I hope they are still making it, as I'm running low. Anything to diffuse light and hide red lines.

You can not apply Mare Minerals if you are sweating! Your face must be dry to begin with and thru the process.
Oh, I forgot! To eliminate all the little jars, I've mixed foundation and mineral veil together, guessing at proportions, along with a little extra glow and use that at the gym. I have several red areas that I need to conceal and am not doing a full face makeup, just a quick once over the face so I don't look like and red and white checkered tablecloth.

Bare Escentuals can also be ordered from QVC (either on the phone or online at qvc.com). That's where I get mine because of their no-hassle return policy. If you use it and don't like it, you can return it within 30 days. Shipping is minimal. I started using the foundation about 6 months ago and I love it. Particularly because it has an SPF of 15. I have t-zone skin with some discoloration (due to hormones) and it really evens out my skin tone and I never feel like I have on foundation.
I've used it for 2 years and there is nothing better. A little mascara, blush, and mineral veil and I'm good to go most days. Except those days were I have to be a grown up and work  , then I add a little eye shadow and a foundation color.
It's got to be great stuff if that's all it takes to look good at my age.
Beware if you use ebay. I notice there's a company called Smokey Mountain that tries to make you believe you're buying Bare Minerals by offering a great starter kit that is almost identical to BM (but cheaper).

They sell it along with the BM instruction guide and DVD, and don't show any lids that say "Bare Minerals."

With that said, I can't wait to get the rest of my BM products that I ordered
Okay, I guess in a few weeks I can also give a review on Bare Escentuals Rare Minerals Night Treatment. I like the idea of washing your face and then applying ......what looks like makeup so I don't look rough in front of my husband. 8O Normally I just keep my makeup on (but I never wore anything but eye stuff).

I was using Principal Secret which I love ...but I like to change it up every once in awhile.

There are A LOT of ebay sellers who do just that. And, there are others who resell Bare Minerals by separating large jars out into little sample-size jars. If you're buying on ebay (just like with everything), REALLY read the listing.
I tried Bare Minerals and loved it at first. It had such a light feel the coverage made my face look like it was airbrushed. But then after a few weeks of wearing it my face began to itch and my skin started breaking out. I did some research and found out the Bare Minerals contains bismuth oxycloride which can cause exactly the symptoms I was having. So I searched around for a different mineral makeup and came across [spam]. It has the same light feel and great coverage of a mineral makeup with the bad reactions. It's also free of bismuth oxychloride, talc, and fragrances, to name a few. I get it at www.cleure[spam].com/ . I'm just so tired of misleading marketing. It takes an informed consumer who is willing to put in the time and effort to find a truly "good for your skin" product.

I'm so tired of spam. It takes eternal vigilance to root out spammers who troll websites to leave links with their associates' info in it so you can get a sale.

Did you mention in your post that you stand to gain money if someone buys? Would you think that's "misleading marketing?"

I followed your link and the link that said "Contact me". Since you want people to contact you, here is your contact info.

Perhaps people should contact you to discuss what they feel is misleading advertising about Bare Minerals. Or other ads on posted on forums

Glad to help!
I just recently tried the cosmetic line from Lauren Hutton, it is for older skin, I'm in my early 50's and hate foundation like Ms J does.

I find the traditonal foundation gets stuck in my lines and yes, I have lines. So I tried the Lauren Hutton line (saw it on QVC) and love it, the process is very similar to that of the mineral products. Takes about 5 minutes to put on, it comes in one compact. There is no all over face product in the selection I got, but my skin while old as dirt is not bad, so you put on a blush product and contouring product, liner really thin, concealers if you need or want, I don't have anything to conceal or at least I don't think I do... I add a little mascara and lip stick and I'm good to go.

I look so much better (IMHO) and I don't feel like I have anything on or that I look made up. In fact when I began wearing it, everyone just thought I got a little sun over the weekend.... didn't realize I was wearing makeup...

I will see if I can find the web address or you can check it out on QVC if you are interested.

I love BM and been using it for a year now. I will tell you that Proactive also WORKS!
You go Ron....
I loveeee bare minerals!!! Ive tried sheer cover (the one with leeza in the informericals) - awful, the color doesnt go and just too much to use...

One thing though, I never use BM in the wintertime. It makes my face feel so dryyyy, hot and itchy even though i have combo skin. I dont know why maybe it's just me.

I sell Avon and they have a Smooth Mineral foundation, blush, and eye shadow. I don't know the cost of all the others, but for those that like their products, and need something less expensive, I think the current prices are up to $8.00.

I'm NOT pushing the product, just offering the information for those that can't afford the more expensive stuff.

I have some, but haven't tried it yet. BUT, my customers say they love the stuff...?? The eyeshadow has sold so well that they have put a temporary hold on orders because they can't keep up with them...

If you need help finding a representative, the address, or any other information you can send me a PM.

Like I said, this is NOT an advertisement!!! (Hope I didn't do anything wrong, Ron!!!)
Well it's an advertisement, but you're not being sneaky about it, didn't include a link, and you are a long time member, not just coming to spam us.

I think it's ok ;)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the avon anew day/night face lotion line!

Just wanted to say it's been awhile since I started to wear BM and I still LOVE LOVE it and can't imagine life w/o it. Once I have it on, I really feel like a million bucks (skin wise). As mentioned, the key is applying right!
I responded to this just like it was a recent post.... this is not the first time I have done this lately either (Ron  ). I saw post by someone who is no longer here and thought it was recent and wondered how.... It did however get me to think about trying the mineral stuff... so I order some of the everyday brand that someone added a link.

I will have to look more closely at the date of the posts.... 8O and not just jump in when I have something to add or think I do...
I am a little behind on the times  - but I finally went and had a free Bare Minerals makeover - it was horrible!!!!! I have some light discolored spots and none of those were covered. To top it off, you could really see the wrinkles in my forehead ( Normally the wrinkles aren't noticable.) The girl who did the makeover was in her early twenties and didn't seem to care about making it work. :x Do you think I should try it again? I hear some many people rave about it - I don't know. Has anyone used it and not liked it?
ButtersStotch posted that she didn't like it for the same reason.

The people on here who love it basically would tell you yeah, try it again (just read back to the first page where that's exactly what we did to someone else)... it's all about application. If you've watched the segment on qvc... then you know it should NEVER look or feel cakey ...and the minerals are so tiny and you apply so lightly, it shouldn't live in your creases/wrinkles. Most (not all as sometimes it just may not be right for you of course!!) will tell you the reason it looked that way is... people are used to applying it as they would any other powder. That's NOT how you apply.

I guess you should get another free makeover before buying some. My MIL and her friends use it and they're in their 60s.

Thanks - I think I will try it again. I think this time I will buy it online - watch the video and then just try it myself - I have never really had luck with free makeovers anyway. Thanks for your help.

By the way - you mentioned above you like Avon's Anew line. Do you have an eye creme you would suggest? I have been using Estee Lauders Night Repair as day eye creme, but I am almost out of it and was wondering if there was something else anyone has tried and liked.
For eye cream, my mom and I both use what you're using now!!! I've gotten Anew Force Extra Eye Cream several times for free as part of my package, and I have no problem with it, but my mom uses the Estee Lauder eye cream, day cream, and night cream she uses Avon Anew Extra Triple Lifting night cream. I use both the day and night cream of the Extra Triple, and when I'm going somewhere nice.. I use Avon Anew Luminosity Ultra Skin Brightener cream because it's so awesome. Makes my skin feel like a million bucks, BUT on a normal day ...I go back to my other stuff b/c sometimes I need more moisture. In TX where it's butt hot, I wore Philosophy Hope in a Jar b/c it's light but feels like a facial every time you use it (oprah uses this daily). Here it's too dry and I need more moisture.

Of course we could have completely different skin types!
Stephanie, Before you buy the Bare Minerals, take a look at Lauren Huttons line. I don't like anything that settles in my lines either and I wish I only had forhead lines, but alas I have them around my eyes and smiles creases on my cheeks... not a one on my forhead. I like this because you don't have to wear an all over face make up and you can use her products to conceal too. I just don't care that much if someone sees my imperfections, but I don't want to draw attention to them by makeup getting stuck in the lines.... It was designed for older skin.

Face cream, I just started using some Avon cream, I believe it's the Hydrolift cream, face and eye.... I love it, its light, and I feel like it does really moisturize my very dry skin.... and it's pretty inexpensive.
I like my skin a bit dewier, too, rather than the matte powdered look, so I think that also played into why I didn't like it. I also like to use a lot of moisturizer and powder and moisture never really play nice together!
TylersMom--

Thanks for the info on the Lauren Hutton line. I just ordered
a Face Disc kit to try. It was on the HSN site, so maybe
her products are there now rather than QVC.

It looks like a good line, I'll let you know how I like it.

Heaven knows I have plenty of lines to fill in :D , so it may
be a while before you hear from me.

Maybe I should try some of those products instead of just looking at the pictures!
I have lines (think old), spots, and I live in a desert so my skin is dry. I also spend days on airplanes which drys my skin even more. I love Bare Minerals. I do a deep moisturize about 30 minutes before applying BM. My face looks natural much longer no matter what I'm doing. None of the layered putty look that comes when I use a foundation.
Jill, is that Clyde, a new look? my he looks so, well, shaved...

Your new Avatar is great, were you on the ground with him looking down at you?

Also, when I saw you at SheepiePalooza, I thought your skin looked great, it does look smooth and dewy. I never had that kind of skin and always wished I did. I have a million freckles so my skin will always look some what blotchy at best....
