We were joking about a couple we know that would probably celebrate by buying a couple of cars, using (way) more than the raise and going further into debt. This brought to memory a story I read a long time ago about "the millionaire next door" wherein a couple who reached $1 million in assets celebrated by making a bowl of popcorn. So..... How would you celebrate a raise? |

Shop till I drop. |
Quote: Joan got a little raise and we are going to celebrate by splurging and having dessert at an ice cream stand.
I couldn't help but laugh because that's straight out of a sitcom where the reward was really for the hubby not the wife. I think dinner out is how we'd celebrate. In the military, if you get a raise, it's tradition that you throw a party for everyone. Sucks major butt considering it's your celebration yet you're paying for tons of guys to get drunk! |
Same way I do every year: spend it before I even get my check!
No, it all depends how much it is and if I need it for anything else. James and I don't carry debt-- we try to just pay up front for everything so I imagine a raise would go toward that next thing that we've been wanting and kind of saving for. Not as fun as just blowing it but I still get stuff and that's all that matters! |
HAHAHAHAHAHA, My first thought when I read the TITLE (before reading your post) was that I'd GO FOR ICE CREAM |
Maybe we could give our Administrator a raise so he could take Joan out for an ice cream too. |
Congratulations to your wife! And I think ice cream is the perfect way to celebrate any occasion.
I think I'll be getting a raise in about 6 weeks, and I plan to celebrate by taking ballet! Actually, taking ballet has nothing to do with my raise, by I still plan to do it. Yay! Adults in tu-tus! I have yet to grow out of my childhood dream of being a ballerina. |
Ice cream sounds good |
fidelity.com. Raise=New Investment
and a trip to the ice cream stand for the entire family. |
Ron,
Just be careful DWIC |
I smile to myself, raise the amount that is automatically deposited into the savings account ... and don't tell my husband
He's definitely the spender - he'd find some impulse purchase that we just can't live without, like the new $395 blender, or another OES |
@SC&F; DWIC = Driving With Ice Cream?
@SoA; I used to work for Fidelity... |
a new pair of Jimmy's .... Jimmy Choos or something special from Louis Vuitton c'est magnifique ! Now of course that has to be a big raise, failing that I'd get .... nah it would have to be Jimmy's lol |
Congratulations to Joan!!!
I would buy some lobster.. |
Congrats to Joan!
I'd go out to dinner and buy some shoes...maybe not in that order. |
Go out to dinner or have a maid clean the house!
Way to go Joan! |
Congrats to Joan!
I would definitely go out for a nice dinner. She's earned it! |
Since you have more money now, you can support a new sheepdog!
Chris will be asking for a big raise next week. The only way people get decent raises at his office is by giving their notice that they are quitting. Unfortunately, Chris will have to do the same thing. Hopefully, they won't call him on his bluff... |
Rum Raisin and a movie...
Congrats! |
