Earlier in the summer I carted my gazillion bricks to elevate the previous wet muddy area under my porch as the yard was slightly higher than the area near the house. With sand, gravel and bricks I raised that area by 4-6 inches. On our rainy wet coast my basement would often flood. It served two purposes as someday I also want to enclose that area so that foster cats can safely get some fresh air. With leftover bricks I also wanted a walkway as there previously existed none between the back gate and stairs. Also attempting to change the grade in that area. Being adventurous or nutty (your pick!) I built an elevated veggie garden (dog and cat proof) for the numerous foster bunnies and Guinea pigs. The veggie garden was planted late in the season as I was working on a couple projects on my own at one time. For bunnies however the leaves are more important than the veggies in most cases. Decided to be creative and have a "Gucci sidewalk". So embaressing to see that ugly green algea on my siding. The "boys" were not impressed, think they miss the dirt piles. The finished result : Notice the lighter pavers? That's the ones that stayed dry after it rained today! It worked!!! Veggie garden..sad looking a month ago. Whooo my first attempts at growing veggies!! It worked!! Greens for the bunnies! Thanks for letting me do the happy dance and hijacking the chat thread! Marianne and the Monsters |

Holy cow, M!! Awesome work!! I can't believe you can figure all this out yourself!! The animals are lucky! |
Thanks!
Now If I can ever dismantle that ugly trampoline I'll be thrilled! I think for all my first attempts I did okay, but should I ever attempt it again I can see where I've made mistakes. Maybe next summer? Tomorrow I finally go back to work and rest. Marianne |
Wow, Marianne! It all looks wonderful, especially the garden veggies. |
Marianne,
Don't dismantle the Trampoline! You need the exercise! |
ohh i love the garden and the walkway! you got some lucky bunnies! |
WHEN ARE YOU VISITING ME ???????????? Holy Moly your awesome |
Is there anything you can't do? I'm envious of all your talents. |
Fantastic Marianne!!! Your garden is abundent and your walkway looks great. Now it is time to go to work and get some much needed rest. lol Enjoy your kids!!!!!! |
Looks great Marianne!! Come on down to my house, I need a walkway! |
That looks nice - and even better - it does work!
Those are really cool looking bricks, I have never seen any like that around here. Happy munching, bunnies, the greens look nice and lush. After you clear out the garden this fall, sprinkle in some of those little bunny turds to fertilize, then you will have great results next year too. |
Seriously awesome, Marianne! You could have your own show on HGTV! |

Ditto! I'd watch the "Marianne Show" for sure! |
Great veggie garden!!!!! You did an awesome job! |
Brilliant! All your hard work has paid off!
You're going back to work for a rest??! I would love a job like that! |
As always Marianne, you ar an inspiration! I'm now rubbing my hands together, all motivated to tackle my spetenber gardening projects!!! You go girl!!! |
I got the picture of the pole barn that the guys Todd works with built. They all help each other with jobs. There was the cement foundation, they built the whole thing from scratch. The roof peak is a sky light, and there is a 12 foot door on the other side that opens into the pasture. This side has a small door for access from the yard, also helps with air flow. The green building before it is my garage.

Wow, you really are amazing!! I would definitely watch your show if you had one! |
Dawn: The guys did a great job! Having a skylight in is great. It is so cool that you had so many guys around to help put the barn up. |
Dawn!!! That looks fantastic!!! Two bad they couldn't clone your hubby as I'd get dibs!! Nyuck Nyuck.
Really fabulous job and I'd love to live in a smaller community where people still help each other out with task. It's really a win win situation! As for getting my own show...Hey thanks for the vote of confidence in me. Although as my newest post showed I made a mistake by trying to cut corners on my last job (built yet another addition to bunny home) - didn't set the post in concrete and paid the price. So I'm going back to what Mike Holmes says about doing it right the first time..LOL! Marianne |
