Has your dog ever had a steroid shot for allergies?

Continuation from my last post...

yuki got a steroid shot. ...was told to expect extreme thirst, hunger, and urination. To not to give extra food, but to give her more water.

Did anyone's dog seem like their heart was racing and chest was moving fast? She's not panting or anything though. I wondered if the steroid shot was kinda like taking a strong diet pill?? Where your heart races a bit b/c you're not used to how powerful it is?

She seems to not want to do much and is being a complete angel (normally I'm going insane by evening time because she's just being her goofy and stubborn self). She's not pacing or anything, but when I touch her, she immediately says "mommy, hold me." There were two times yesterday where she was walking around and it appeared that her legs were shaking, but I'm not positive. It was enough to caught my eye, but it would stop by the time I could focus my eyes. Now, she also shakes when she has to pee real bad, but she didn't have to go then.

My maltese who had the same shot isn't experiencing any of this outside of the thirst and frequent potty trips.

Her heart isn't racing now and she seems to be fine, but it seems to when it gets closer to bed time. Both vet clinics are closed today, and I don't quite see it as an emergency yet. I keep hoping the shot is wearing off since it only lasts "about" 7 days, she said, and she got it Thurs around 11 a.m.

Just wanted to see if these were things your dog went through?

Ben has had it his allergies before. His body metabolized it very rapidly - it lasted less than 24 hours before he was scratching again. No worth the cost or effort, IMO. His chart is marked so it won't be given again.

We work hard to keep him off of the prednisone, though I do have here for the bad days. Right now he is taking 25 mg of Benadryl, three times a day (he weighs 95 lbs and could take more).

Prednisone seems to have more of the thirst with water retention & frequent urination, hunger and rapid heart rate for Ben. There can also be mood changes - increased aggression, anger, and even depression as you come off the prednisone.

And with any steroid, a rapid heart rate is a normal side effect.

We also do the cool oatmeal baths and washing his legs as he comes inside.
Makes sense that it would raise the heartbeat, but since I was only told to not be surprised by extra drinking and peeing... I wasn't sure. She just looked miserable the past few nights (just when the first 1-2 hrs before she falls asleep then she looks fine the rest of the night). She seems a lot better tonight. Thanks.
