Chop meat intolerance?

I just started to introduce my OES ( 9 moths old tuesday) to cooked chop meat as part of his feeding. I added some to his regular food twice a day. First he loved it...within two days he wasn't too interesetd in eating it and would nose around and eat only the kibble. Late last night/early tuis morning he began a really severe bout of diarrhea and vomitted once.

He is otherwise healthy. 82 pounds. Playful. Even had an appetite this morning but I am holding food for a while.

Could it be the cooked beef? Over the course of a few days he also had peanut butter for the first time, cooked liver ( I cooked it and cut it up for training treats). He's had the liver before. And some small pieces of liverwurst...not all at once. This is over the course of a few days.

Think I should go to boiled chickn and rice for a while?

I guess I have to ask, why are you giving him those foods? Liver and Liverwurst are high in cholesterol and not good for animals or people. Is there a reason you want to give him the ground beef?

My guys only get a well balanced dog food and a low fat treat (lean treats). I will occasionally give them raw vegies but find that changind diet or giving "human food" often upsets their stomach. When Tasker gets diarrhea I will start him off on white rice then slowly add boiled chicken.

I may have missed another post but am unclear why you are adding these foods.
Why am I adding these foods is my question to myself too right now :x

First, we are in training and in doing any exercise he finds particularly difficult, we try to use a "smelly" special treat. Many of the others use liver they've cooked and cut into tiny bits. They use liver in conformation in the ring alot too.

Liverwurst is just as smelly and these are or were treats he erceived on occasion - not alot of either and not every day.

Cooked beef I was introducing him too because I was going to change him over from a commercial diet to a more holistic one and it involved "real" food as opposed to kibble. I currently use a very high quality, all natural kibble and it was working fine. Should have left well enough alone :x :x
You can't change the diet drastically or quickly with a sheepie. The diarrhea could be a result of the change. The vomiting makes me a little bit more worried.

Withhold all food and water for 12 hours after vomiting. When you start to feed again, you may feed boiled rice and LEAN hamburger, BOILED to remove all fat possible.

If he continues to vomit see the vet.

I'd stop feeding that chop meat, too. Maybe it was a bad batch, maybe it was too fatty for him, or maybe it was just too quick of a switch. Lean meat for the pooch!

Turkey dogs thinly sliced and the slices cut into quarters and microwaved till they are "tougher" make great training treats, so I've read. My dog likes his kibble so much we use it as training treats! That's the best, but only because he is the bestest doggie!
I agree with Ron, his usual kibble may be the best "treat".

I have a sheepie with a paticularly sensitive tummy, the slightest change can set off a bought of diarrhea that can lead to a GI bleed. So I am hyper aware of what he eats. But I have also always wondered at the variety and ingredients in "dog treats" since consistency is the key to healthy feeding I have always wondered why there are so many treats produces with such an assorted list of ingredients. Some dog may well tolerate the "treat of the week" but you may be blessed with a sheepie to whom monotomy is bliss!!

I'm not real "big" on holistic diets. I think dog food is big business for a reason. There are certainly some crap foods out there but there are also alot of very good quality dog foods that have alot of research and good track record behind them. I am a firm believer in not reinventing the wheel.
Well, so far we only had that one vomitting incident. And that was about 4:30 this morning. Solid pieces of the the liver came out - yes, I did inspect it 8O I tried to give him the rice water but he wouldn't drink it so he got some water with pedylite to avoid dehudration. At about 1pm, I gave him just a bit of over boiled rice and rice water. He has kept everything down.

However, the diarrhea is continuing but slowing down. Probably because he is empty. He is going every few hours and its a little bit at a time but it is pure stool-water. Sort of like mud. yes, I inspect that too 8O 8O he has lots of energy though and is playing with his toys and me! I don't think he has anything serious. Just stupied Mommy syndrome

Will continue to watch him and keep my paws crossed he feels better.
The diarrhea could last a day or so before going back to normal. I once change my oes to another dog food very slowly but it never did agree with her. So I switch to something else slowly and it worked wonderful. There is a dog food list here somewhere that can help you grade your dog food and score it, (hopefully some one here what I am talking about and post it again here)I learnt alot and food tht I thought was good was not. And I found what I was looking for and my dogs are doing great. No need for homemade food, but I still do the treats for them (biscuits) But you have to watch that also they like it to much have to keep it high up my learnt to counter surf  But it did give them GAS  not usre what was in it for that.
