Everything we tried was so dry and over cooked I tossed it out. They just lost us as customers. I will call tomarrow and complain!!!!!! |

Okay, this has nothing really to do with the food, but I need to share my Old Country Buffet story. They do actually have decent food, but familly circumstances turned me against the restaurant.
Many many years ago I felt totally humiliated by my Dad for going to Old Country for Thanksgiving dinner with my stepmom's family. I was brought up either eating my Mom's wonderful homemade Thanksgiving dinner or going to a very nice restaurant, so this was just horrible for me. I know it's supposed to be the concept of being together, but I didn't exactly enjoy the company either. Fast forward two years later, "Dad, I will spend Thanksgiving with you, but I will not go to that restaurant again!", "I promise we won't go there, I didn't like it either". At the last minute where did we go OLD COUNTRY BUFFET I think that was the last Thanksgiving I spent with that side of the family. Every time I see what of those restaurants, I cringe! Although, the food isn't so bad... |
I didn't even know that place was still open. |
Our OCB has a pretty decent reputation. The staff is nice and they really seem to keep an eye on the food so that it is fresh.
It personally is not my favorite restaurant, but it is dependable and offers a variety of foods - nice when you have a group of people who like different stuff. |
OMG, CB is SO GROSS!!!!
I went w/ my son a few years ago. The food was SO nasty my son made a joke of it We tried the breaded flounder & inside the fish was BLACK My son kept getting more to see if all the pieces were black (& they were)! Billy kept smushing it on my plate (Billy is my adult son ) The mashed potatoes were like wallpaper paste , so, he had to smush those too. Nothing was good! The food isn't fit for rats or seagulls Don't know how CB stays in business???? |
Well I don't even need to reply to this post since my post was very similar to Joan's. Thanks for typing!!!!
I think it all depends on your OCB. Ours completely sucks. Dirty facility poor staff, poor food, poor patrons (that's the worst!!). Maybe somewhere there is a magic OCB that actually makes good food!! Oh yeah, it's called Fire Mountain Buffet!!! |
Sounds like something that needs to stay back East.
We have something out here who's name escapes me. Parking lot is always crowded. Sounds like the same type of place. Any place that serves buscuits and gravy with mashed potatoes and calls it a meal......and has the nerve to charge $ for it, is beyond me. At least with a bean burrito you are getting protein......... |
A wayyyyyyyyyyyy longgggggggggg time ago, when OCB first opened here in St. Louis, the food wasn't bad especially the fried chicken---it was a fun, inexpensive place to go with kids. Kids ate free and they had a big BEE character roaming around giving balloons out to the kids ---
I took my grandkids there a couple years ago...looked at the buffet...and walked out(YECKCKCK)...................... ................ we went to McDonalds. |
Over 10 years ago I went to one because it was the only thing in town close enough to go to.... I remember enjoying everything there. I chowed down and was excited we went. I was also hadn't eaten a home-cooked meal in a long time. Went 2 more times at a different location and the food was so horrible and inedible as described above. But I really had no idea people still went, so the title of the thread caught my eye. I remember seeing a few here and there through the years, but it was that place that is so ran down and deserted, you're just waiting for them to tear it down to put a newer buffet or store there. Maybe the ones you go to are still in good shape! |
BLECH!
Did you ever notice OCB is always full of fat people I avoid buffets like the plague, there is an uncontrollable tendency to over eat, bad as the food is. I think you feel a pressure to "eat your moneys worth". I also hate buffets because even with sneeze guards you are eating all the germs from all the folks that went before. I realize that in regular restaurants the food isn't germ free but it they are at least more minimized. I have seen people do some really gross things at buffets. |
Apparently you've never worked in a kitchen, Ginny. |

Warning! Gross attack! Don't read further if you are eating, pregnant or have a weak stomach........you've been warned! Some time back a police officer ordered a hamburger through a drive through, not McDonalds, but I can't say what. As he was eating it he noticed something strange.........it was a loogie, coughed up phlem, whatever you want to call it. Seems the cook learned the burger was for a police officer and decided on a littler personal seasoning. susan |
what did the policeman do ? |
Went back inside and arrested the cook. Charged (and later convicted) with assault on a police officer, the cook also got an HIV check. |
