Perhaps it's time to teach him the "drop it' or "leave it" command.
You'd probably need to follow him around when is in on the hunt. Before he goes to pick something up, tell him drop it or leave it. If he leaves it alone, praise him and give him a treat. Also just try getting him to come to you and give him a treat, just for coming. So there is no "hunt" involved in getting a treat, just listening. |
I had this problem with my Max whom I decided to teach him how to fetch my slippers. Well needless to say when he wants attention he will fetch anything in my bedroom....socks, shirts, BRAS. Very embarrassing at dinner parties. Definitely teaching a good "drop it" is needed asap. As well as training daily with what you want him to bring and not giving a treat when he brings you the wrong thing. Hopefully with constant training your pup will learn. ....be patience I know it can be frustrating. Good luck..
