Have you been to an orthopedic vet or just your regular vet? I'm just wondering since 4 months is still pretty young and thing can change. However, if this is a grade IV condition then maybe operatng in a 4 month old is justified. Since this is a genetic condition, I'm surprised it hasn't shown up in other breedings or these two parents had it in their genes and it came together here........curious. I'd want to know if others from this male and female have had trouble.
I'm sorry youro pup has this problem. |
If I'm not mistaken, that's very common in toy breeds. I think Tasker's Mom had the surgery on her Maltese with pretty good results. Perhaps she'll pipe up...
Ginny, you're being paged... |
Yes, it is very common in small breeds, but I've never heard of it in an OES.
Ginny did have the surgery done on Ty. I'm sure she'll be glad to share her experience. |
The breeder has over 35 years experience and has never seen it before, that is why it is so strange. The diagnosis was made by a highly recommended ortho surgeon, so I am convinced it is on target. I am going ahead with the surgery since others have suggested since she is so young the prognosis is good. We'll see............ |
I am sorry to hear that you and your puppy are going through this. It would be difficult to just trade your puppy in for a new one. Mine is only 3 months and I couldn't imagine replacing him. Good luck with the surgery and do keep us posted on how it turns out. |
