I'm very intereested to know if anyone has ever contacted their breeder after receiving a pup which has been diagnosed with HD? - Our youngest, now 7 months, has been diagnosed with severe HD, and we are tryng to get a refund from the breeder who told us she had an excellent hiop score.. We bought two pups from the same breeder, but the second pup has severe HD, and feel that it is the breeders responsibility - could anyone share a similare experience please? - Thanks Mike |

Hi Mike, sorry to hear about your 7 month old's hip dysplasia.
It "should be" the responsibility of the breeder to do the appropriate testing to ensure the best possible health for any potential puppies. With that said, there are no guarantees in breeding, hip dysplasia is a problem in the OES breed in general, and it is possible for a puppy to still get it, even if the parents have great hips. Most breeders that have health guarantees will "replace" a pup, not give you a refund. Most people opt to not give their dogs back obviously. The breeder would most likely euthanize it or put it in a rescue. I know, harsh reality. You can look your puppy's parents on this site to see they are in the registry. http://www.offa.org/ Not all breeders register hips, and it is up to you as a buyer to check before purchasing a pup. There are some great posts in the Medical section on this forum about what you can do to help your pup to deal with the dysplasia. |
