I think it is funny and so cute. I love seeing his puppy pads flip up! I don't remember Ollie or Bart ever doing this. I know my non-sheepies don't either. Do any of you have dogs who do this, or is Chewie just strange? (or really flexible ) |
|
I would love to see a picture of that |
Bingley does this, too!!! I absolutely love to watch it! |
Oh, I am so happy! It IS really cute! |
Yuki does it too. Funny and cute to see! |
Clyde does it, too and often likes to "expel" at the same time. It just sounds like a rush of air. I dread the stretch sometimes, lol. |
Oh no.
I hope Chewie doesn't decide to be more like his cousin Clyde!! |
hehe...panda does it too...we call it the front stretch (which is shorter in time) and the baaaack stretch...up on tippy toes till she has to catch herself...... |
Brie does it I love it, after she has a big shake too. Kelsey does not do it anymore, darn that old rear. |
Mulligan does it maybe 8 or 10 times a day.
The front bow stretch with the butt in the air and the nub flips up, then the back stretch all the way to the toes, and usually the left toes pop up off the ground. Bows/stretches and itch scratches take full precedence over any and all commands, too. |
Pepsi does the tippy toe stretch too.
Rags stretches from the couch. Front feet on the floor and as she walks forward her back legs go out stretching behind, completely parallel with the couch cushion It's the craziest thing. She's very flexible. It looks like she's flying. I call it her Super Girl pose. |
Abby and Bert both do the "extreme stretch" thing, but Abby sometimes embellishes it with some very loud GROANS (not like she's hurting...happy groans ) and, funniest of all, she sometimes does it with her rear end still up on the bed or couch! |
Barkley does the big stretch to the point where he has to move his front feet to keep from falling on his face, which leads to dragging the tops of his back feet along as he's already got those pads tilted toward to sky. This is often accompanied by a big yawn.
I agree, very cute. I think Barkley takes after Clyde in more than just the looks department though... |
My guys do this too! Annie's stretches aren't a big as Fozzie's. In the morning, the stretch is followed by a big body shake and sometimes a jumpy circle (the Annie dance):D |
Dancer does it too.... LOL |
Hi does anyone have a picture? |
Pearl has done the "front stretch" and the "back stretch since she came to us @ 4 months old.
I began to "put a name to the trick" and now whenever I say Pearl, Stretch...back stretch... SHE DOES It' a great trick..everyone is amazed (especially the back stretch..)!!! It make us look so good!!! Also, I think because she is so limber....ya know--- back stretching all the way to the floor, it may help with hip problems later on in life when she's 15 or 16..Who knows???? Val |

Awwwwwwww!
It looks like yoga. Down dog. And she looks better at it than I am! |
Here is a bowing stretch for Rags. (this picture was a taken two weeks after we rescued her in Feb 2006, she was so thin! ) I don't have any pictures of the couch stretch.....yet.
|
I will have to work on the picture - it really is fun to see! |
There is nothing like a sheepie's tuschy....Full coated or shaved...
TOO CUTE~~~ |
ohhh how cute thanks you guys. I just love the pictures Shamu doesn't really do that, so I didn't know what you mean she pretty much does one leg at a time |

Izzie alternates between both legs or each leg by itself....we call each leg by itself her ballet stretches |
got sheep wrote: Chewie does these big stretches when he stands up. He does them MANY times every day. The weird part is his back legs and feet. As he stretches, he goes so far forward that he goes onto his tippy toes on the back, then goes even more and he flips his pads up - so he is actually on the tops of his back feet!
At least two of Chewie's sisters and one of his brothers stand up and put their paws on Kristine to stretch themselves out. Sybil also does this odd thing where she stretches herself front and then back while standing on the ground, just like you described. My chiropractic vet saw her do this once and praised her through the roof. He told Kristine to put it on cue, because it's a really good thing for us to do for our spines and so on. I don't do this, so I think it might come from Dad. When Kristine took three of Chewie's siblings to our vet (Dr. Amy) the other night for rabies shots, they were so wound up and naughty (where DID Chewie come from??) that Dr Amy prescribed stopping by her house to let them run in her huge fenced-in backyard for a while before Kristine took them to class. Dad was there too. Kristine didn't notice if he stretches or not, but he does like to stand up and lean against you. He loved seeing the kids - OK, he loved Macy, teased Sybil and showed Che how a real boy dog pees! I'm sure he'd love to meet Chewie too. Amy says you should stop by some time when you're in town. Love, Mad Dog |
Toby and Suzi both do this but Suzi has taken to doing it in the show ring. I think that she thinks it gets her more attention.
They stretch their back legs so far that their feet actually turn over. It always worries me that they'll fall down and hurt themselves while stretching. OH and don't forget the good stretch noise that goes with it! Like a long, drawn out grunt! |

You mean the one borderline obscene groan that makes people turn around and stare at your dog? Makes sense, I guess. Think about how good it feels when we stretch. But a little less drama would be appreciated. For the sake of decorum and all. I'd love it if one of my dogs stretched in the breed ring. At least during the down time in a big class. Limber them up a bit, keeps them relaxed. Perhaps not so much if they chose to do it in the middle of the down & back, I guess. Especially not with vocals included. Kristine & Mad Dog |
Chewie actually does it silently! Thank goodness.
Get up from a nap - big stretch. Exercise finished after the long sit - big stretch; then long down - big stretch! I don't recall him doing it in the breed ring though. I will have to pay more attention. But, he does burp - real loud too. He walks right up to me and does it. Of course Oh, and thanks for the Rabies reminder! I just scheduled Chewie's. |

The burping comes from Mad's side of the family. She doesn't do it, but her mom and her aunt both do. Yup - preferably in your face. I keep thinking Chewie must be a throwback to grandma Coco. Beware. In her senior years, her newest hobby is flatulence. Especially at the chiro vet's office. Don't ask. I had to write the poor man a note of apology on her behalf after our last visit. Kristine & Mad Dog (that's not my mom you're talking about - nuh-huh) |
I agree, Chewie seems so much more like Grandma Coco.
(Kristine - you should go to the intro section and properly introduce yourself ) Kristine's avatar is Chewie's mom and his sister Sybil. Trust me, she is well named!!! Looking at our 2 avatars, I see that Chewie and Mad have the same smile!! See, Chewie does belong in the family. |
Hannah use to stretch her back legs out until her puppy feet turned over. I thought there was something wrong, but she didn't walk funny and never slowed down chasing Zumi, so I figured it was OK. Silly Sheepie! |
