Smoking Help

Anyone out there who is a smoker and wants to quit, I recommend the new drug Chandix. I am on day 14 smoke free using it. I've been smoking ro about 20 years and never thought I'd last a n hour without smoking, never mind 14 days! No, its not a miracle and you will have to fight the craving at times. but the Chandix helps tremendously and is not a nicotine going into your body like the patch. You actually do not feel like smoking much...

It was also covered under my health insurance . So, if you've been wanting to quit, I say give this a try.

Days Smoke Free = 14
Cigarettes Not Smoked = 280
Money Saved = $95.00
Breathing Without an Oxygen Tank = PRICELESS

Good Luck! You can do it too!

Huge Congratulations :go:
Way to go! :cheer:
Congratulations on your 14th day of independance. Stay strong.
Way to go Ashley. I quit 5 months ago with Chantix and I was a pack a day smoker for 30 years. There are several threads over in "Healthy Lifestyles" about quitting smoking.
Congrats! Quitting smoking is a termendous accomplishment.

Be proud!!!!! :clappurple:
Congratulations!!!

I have many patients who have used Chantix with GREAT success, it truly is a wonder drug.

One note about the treatment, the Chantix instructions tell you NOT to use nicotine replacement therapy with the drug. HOWEVER, the University of Pittsburg School of Pharmacology (I have a Smoking Cessation Counseling certification from them) recommends that if you are using Chantix and STILL having nicotine withdrawal symptoms is is perfectly allright to use nicotine replacement (patch gum lozenges ets).

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
im taking it right now....my question is this....when the heck is it going to start working??????????????????????

im on day 5 am pill......i NEED to quit......i have cut back a lot...but i sure dont feel any different...i dont feel like im going to puke, nothing......advice please!
Darcy, go over to Healthy Lifestyles and read my reports on quitting with Chantix.

The instructions say take it for a week, then quit smoking. I took it for TWO weeks then quit.

And what worked for me may not work for other people. There are manymany smoking cessations aids so if one doesn't work, try another.

Never quit quitting.
I tell my patients not to even TRY to quit until they have been on it for two weeks.
Darcy,
Don't give up yet. Five days is not a long time taking it. The instructions say to take it and smoke as usual for at least eight days. And if you stop on day 8 and then fall back and smoke, just continue to take it and try again. At day 5 I think you are still on one pill a day? Once you start the 2 pills a day you will feel differentlly. The craving is less... Even smoking doesn't quite give the satisfaction it did.

But i won't lie. The Chandix is great and a tremendous help. But you still have to fight it too. I will say this....I used to run three miles a day. Even smoking. Until I started getting so out of breath I thought I'd pass out! So, I stopeed the running and kept the smoking

yesterday, I ran up three flights of stairs and guess what....I wasn;t out of breath! well, maybe just a little but wasn't panting :D After only 14 days...
Darcy, you can do it too! C'Mon, join me. its easier as a team!!!
Diane
2:30 pm.....18 hours without a cigerette!!

I decided to use my anger and take it out on the cravings...so far so good....although, I have to say that i DID try to find brians hidden stash of smokes.....couldnt find them, gave up and chewed a piece of gum instead........ :?
If the cravings get really strong, I striongly recommend you go get a pack of the nicotine gum...

I've told this story before, but when my head got all swimmy and cloudy and I couldn't think straight I got some gum and --once I got the $%#$% @#$@#$ @#$@#$ stupid @#$@ @#$@#$ childproof package open-- I chewed the gum and it just absolutely soothed everything.

I wound up using only 4 pieces of the gum. I had a second piece 2 hours later a third piece 6 hours later and one more piece the next morning (I think. This was 10 years ago.)

I had the willpower and the desire not to smoke anymore, the gum just allowed my body and brain a chance to adjust a little bit.

YOU GO GIRL!!!
Hey, in fact I told the story 2 years ago... TO YOU!

Get the gum!
Yep...gum is great. I quit smoking, June 13, 2004.

And, I'm still on Nicorette

My doc assures me, its perfectly fine :go:
Go Darcy Go! I'm with you....We can do this...take one day at a time. When I think of never smoking again, its too overwhelming so I tell myself...I am not going to smoke today and if I want one I will have it tomorrow...One day at a time..one hour at a time if you ahve to...

I figure i this way..if I quit now, I can smoke again when I'm 80 and who will care!

Good luck Darcy...
