AHHHHHHHHHHHH,I HATE SEEING THE OLDER ONES SITTING THERE |
this really breaks my heart.
Look at that nose... he's so cute.... I'll pass it on to some people who might be interested in adopting an older dog. THanks |
I can't believe he's been there for so long. What a cutie! |
Received an email from someone who visited Max in the NY shelter.
What do you think? I think the email was meant for the forum??? Hi, Do you know anything else about the OES Sheepdog mix that has been in the kennel for ten months? I found him on your web forum. I live in Upstate New York and I went down to see him and he has been there TWO YEARS. I was horrified! They won't release him because they said he bites. When I asked them how many times they said twice. Twice in two years does not constitute them keeping him there for two years. I am trying to get him out. I have had two OES over the last 26 years, so I have had experience with the breed. He paces back and forth in his kennel and has stomach problems. This is a sign of stress in his life. He is 9 years old. I took a look at his teeth and he is at least 9 years. He needs to be in a quiet home and not in that noisy kennel. He stayed close to the girl who takes care of him down there, but as you know OES are very loyal breeds. I think he has bitten because he may have been hit in the past because he is somewhat shy. If you have any advice, please let me know. But I think this kennel is abusing this dog by keeping him there an not releasing him. He is in the Putnam County Shelter in Carmel, NY. |
I don't get it. If he will not be released, why is showing as up for adoption? Is this a "no kill" humane society?
This is the problem that I have with no-kill shelters. The dogs cannot be adopted out, yet often live a life of misery...Somethings are worse than death. I support "low kill" shelters, but not "no kill". |
I agree.. there are things much worse than a quick and compassionate end. He'll probably benefit from a mild sedative during the transition phase if he's ever released for adoption. 2 years of pacing back and forth in a shelter has got to be rough on him. I wonder how severe the bites were? |
I have no details, I am confused too.
Any ideas what to do? thx, sue |
