Getting the motorhome Roadworthy again.

Well, I am moving closer to getting the HappieCamper back on the road.

Last fall I replaced all 4 of the "coach" batteries. Last week I replaced both of the "chassis" batteries. I called our insurance company (Amica, they're great!) and took the motorhome out of "winter layup" status for the first time in a couple of years. I have been working around it on a few things, and I've gotten quotes for some things I need done and I plan on having the motorhome inspected on Saturday.

Pending inspection success, I will order the tires (6 of them, $420 each 8O ) and have them installed hopefully next week. Also, I need to do an oil change and lube. At that point I should be fully roadworthy again and ready to take a short trip.

I am just a bit worried about inspection -- pretty much it has been sitting for 2 years, and I think I bought my fuel -- in fact I know I bought my fuel when I was on my way back from breaking down in PA.... that was three full years ago. Still I've been running it fairly frequently and the fuel filter hasn't clogged, though I do have a spare just in case (It's HUGE!). I do remember I paid $1.89 for that fuel, which was moderately expensive then, but had just come down a bit.

Can't wait until this fuel is gone and I have to buy 80 or 90 gallons at nearly $3.00! 8O

So are you headed on an OES.org ROAD TRIP to visit all your loyal subjects???????????????
Straight down south, stop at Ginny's house and then come to visit Shellie and I in PA!!
OR a nice trip to Michigan for the National!
Yes! Come and see us -
You are bringing the camper to the new house right?

Are you doing another big trip?

I don't envy having to buy those tires, and inspection
really rots big time. I swear they make stuff up.
Inspections here have become a joke, nothing more
than a money maker.

Yes, definitely go to the National! :)
oooh, you should take a trip along the East Coast and visit all the sheepies!
Come down south and go camping with the wigglebums & me at 4PawsKingdom. :D It's a fun place to be! :D
Very cool, so where are you going?
Or make a trip to the St Croix river fall, it's stunning in the fall.

Are you prepared to be bombarded with road trip suggestions???
I love the suggestions! Keep'em coming!

I think my first trip after such a long layoff would probably be something like the local campground, followed by something maybe 2-300 miles tops. Just not too confident about my rig and/or my driving abilities anymore.

I guess we're both a little rusty!
Joan is going to want to visit her friend here in Phx!!! So you better just plan on stopping here too!!!
Did I add an extra zero by accident? That would be more in the 2-4,000 mile range.

Given the problem that Joan is a working girl <snicker>, she would have to fly out while I drove out, and that's a long, lonely drive in a motorhome especially at 200 miles a day.
Since you are coming down to visit us, we'll be happy to host a Mexican Welcome Party for Joan and You! I finally found a tequila bottle with one of those worms like the one Betsy showed a couple of weeks ago, ready to open in your honor! Then Lennon and Sofa will keep Mulligan entertained singing mariachi songs in the afternoon.

HOW could you turn down an offer like THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Come on, now....I KNOW you wanna come back to Alaska!!!! :D

Boy, I feel for you on the expenses....we lost a tire on our way up to Fairbanks, and discovered that our spare was shot too  so we had to buy a new tire, and it looks like we have to replace all of them before heading home...the 5th wheel is SUPPOSED to have 15" tires, and it only has 13" 8O ....200.00 a pop
I'm on my way this AM to get inspected...

Wish me luck!
Good luck, Ron!!!
Here's fingers crossed for being Michigan bound!
Good luck Ron! Crossing fingers and paws! 8)
Good luck!! Hope it passes!!

If you are heading west, you must stop in Colorado! It is beautiful in the fall!

You could spend the next year visiting all the places you've been invited.
Hums....Heading on the highway, looking for adventure, looking for the ...(forgot that part ..good thing I'm humming"...born to be Mild. (well you're driving a motor home) :D

Have fun Ron!!! Hope the inspection goes well and can't wait to see future pics and stories of yours and Joans adventures.

I had to go oh.... 10 or 15 miles to the inspection station, there aren't many around that can handle the big rigs.

Sure was scary driving that big rig again, like the first day I owned it, plus the memory of the breakdown and the blowout and the fear that something could break on it after sitting around so long, and the worry that it wouldn't pass inspection. Kinda stressfull.

So the inspector gives it a once over and check all of the usual lights horns wipers (and wash! I was worried when he asked for the wash, I haven't tested that in at least a year!)
Then he crawls underneath looking at the air brakes and suspension...

Then the emissions. I had been seeing black smoke on the "floor it" test they do for diesels, but after the trip and getting the engine nice and hot (even though it had been sitting off for a half hour or so  ) not much visible smoke at all!

So he sticks the probe in my tailpipe, does all that the computer asks him to do, and I had a limit of 30 (ppm I think) and got a reading of 8.7.

 It passed!

First stop....

Washbucket!

Second stop....

New Tires!

Third stop?
hmmmm, maybe a quick trip with Joan and Mulligan.

I'm so excited! :excited:
good for you!!! keep thinking ARIZOOONNAAAA! :D

Aim for Frankenmuth MI for the national show, it should be a pretty drive in September. :D
WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sheepie on wheels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know why everyone wants you to visit them. Maybe it's just Joan and Mulligan they want to see.

:sidestep:

How can anyone say "On the road again..."

and not have Willie in their head?

On the road again....
Just can't wait to get on the road again...
The life I love is makin' music with my friends,
...and I can't wait to get on the road again
"On the road again
Goin' places that I've never been
Seein' things that I may never see again,
And I can't wait to get on the road again."

Ron, Congrats on passing inspection! :cheer:
It inspired me to get my smog done on my car, which is due at the and of the month. It passed. :go:
That was the first song my Korean mom learned to sing. You should have heard her trying to sing words she could barely say...

Then to have that song get stuck in her head and hear her singing it constantly...
WOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

ALRIGHT!!

:yay:

Hope you have a ball on your little trip - wherever you
go. Just keep in mind, we aren't all that far away.

Webmaster 2007 Live Tour.... Coming soon!
Congratulations on getting the "sticker" of approval.

According to Mapquest... the distance between Boston MA and Halifax NS is 692.50 miles.. does that fall into your short jaunt category?

Boston and Halifax are very similar, we share alot of history together..and I think we give you guys a Xmas tree every year...

I think Nova Scotia should be your first road trip....(I can just hear Nicole....noooooo nooooooo Brenda's house is jinxed........)
Well, if I remember correctly, you were Alabama bound the last road trip. So, I think you should pick up where you left off. But then again, maybe it is Alabama that is jinxed instead of Nova Scotia.
