LOL, chickens now that is something not too out of the ordinary in Oklahoma. Luckily none living close by though. We usually just see turtles on occasion when we go for walks. I am a big turtle fan so we usually rescue them and take them back to the neighborhood pond or the wooded area depending on what type turtle it is. We had a scary walk the other day, a dog was loose and it happened to be the one time I didn't have the cell phone on me. It started barking and coming toward us and Jack and Annabelle just looked at the dog. I started walking them home, walking fast. The dog just kept coming like he was going to come and get us. Luckily, it all of sudden smelled something on the ground and stopped and stayed there. Jack and Annabelle surprised me on how well they listened to me. Jack did turn around a couple of times in and stood still as a statue, but then I would say with me and he was heeling again. I won't be without a cell phone for a very long time.

Oh wow! That is scary! Did you notice if it had a colar? I hope its owner found him! You must of been so proud of them! I did notice that they behave when it really counts! Smart dogs! |
my friend in highschool had a pet goat. he used to feed it garbage....that poor poor goat.
that was awfully offtopic too |
We have had a gaggle of wild turkeys around the neighborhood all year.
I have a link to a video of them somewhere, if I can find it, I'll post it. Come to think of it, haven't I already posted it here before? Againg has its moments. The Turkey Video, in Windows Media format (.wmv, almost 1MB in size) |
Ha!!! They are cute! I think I will have a veggiburger for thatnksgiving! LOL Thanks for the video! I wish I had a camera with me when we saw those chickens. It was really ... weird! LOL |
Very nice Ron.......and pretty country.
When we moved out here 25 years ago it was totall agriculture bordering on the high grassland/desert. So we saw lots of stuff: bear (once), coyotes (still do), foxes (not recently), badger, coatimundi or raccoon (hard to tell difference when they are road kill), and otter like thing I'm still not sure what it was, gophers galore, phesants, peacocks and pea fowl, wild white and lop rabbits ( )........so much. Now we are being built upon so the wildlife has all but disappeared |
Yes, the video was funny. I also thought the surroundings were beautiful, I could imagine myself living there. LOL One of these day's I suppose. For awhile we had a few turkeys running around our neighborhood, but the city came and relocated them. I miss them. We do have our pond geese and ducks. We have a unique all black duck, that is unlike all of the others. We have nicknamed him blackie quackie. The kids enjoy our pond, we go and feed all of the birds. I love my house, I just wish I could relocate it a few miles out, less neighbors to get upset about my furbabies. Stormi and co. |
There was a wild tom turkey at my folks place a few years back. (they live in a new townhouse development, bordering farm land) He was like a neighborhood mascot- people fed him corn, and he had a nicknames. (We called him Gobbles, after Timmy's pet turkey on South Park). Animal Control decided to remove him... permanently. The neighborhood went into outrage! They even did a story on it in the local paper. There were turkey memorials on the corner of the road were the turkey hung out, with signs (some by little children such as- "We miss you Mr. Tom Turkey", it just made me cry!), and flowers, and decoy turkeys... It's just amazing how affected people were by his untimely death!
Sorry- I just had to share my sad turkey story... Karen |
