Mulch, mulch, I love mulch...

Quick question about training a puppy, one of my friends trained their Chow-chow (sp??) to use the mulch in their backyard as a 'lavatory' as opposed to their tennis court or flower beds. Has anyone else done anything like this?? I'm going to ask her when I can but wanted to know if anyone knew anything about this, or a tip they want to pass on...

Thanks!

matie LOVES mulch...as a snack! so, i temporarily blocked off the flower beds and when she does find some, i have to take it out of her mouth...she doesn't like that too much... :x
if you take him to the same spot everytime, he'll tend to go in the same area. when we are playing, she'll usually run up to the end of the yard where the potty area is and go. it just takes time and patience to teach them where to go. good luck, oh, and get a crate...works great for potty training. she's 4 months old...i've had her a little over a month and we haven't had an accident in over 2 weeks! :D
Yeah actually my mom drove to Cincinnati to pick up a crate and last night I was up past 2am cleaning out some of the cupboards in our laundry room, which fortunatly is right next to the back door. So, we have that all cleaned out and now all we need is the dog!

Another question, has anyone had any experience with puppies and cats? We have a full grown cat, who is sweet but may not take the idea of a new pup as the highlight of his life. And what about puppies and digging through litter boxes? I'm sure anything gross they'll just love to eat! Ewwwww...

Thanks a lot!

My cat, who is 10 years old, wasn't to crazy about the idea of a new puppy at first. Especially one who was 12 pounds. But after a few days he warmed up to the idea. Max is now a year old and 90 pounds and the cat doesn't let him out of sight. It is the cutest thing in the world to see the two of them playing and sleeping together.
