Hope you don't mind...Cat behavior

I hope you don't mind if I ask a cat question here. I know a lot of us also have cats.

We have two elderly cat gentlemen. Khobi, a 14 year old Siamese and Leo Lapinski, a 13 year old long hair domestic. They have always had a really nice live and let live relationship.

The last week or so, Leo is picking fights with Khobi. Out and out fights! Hissing and loud meowing.

Also, Leo has always pretty much kept to himself, and he's become very lovey dovey with us. Khobi is the one that sleeps with us, but Leo's been pushing him out of bed and trying to take over.

Very strange behavior, indeed!

Tony thinks that Leo may be sensing that Khobi is very ill, and is taking the leadership spot. Khobi is not acting ill, he's acting like himself. But this theory makes sense to me. This is very troublesome and sad to me.

Do any of you have any idea what's going on with them?

Thanks

Illness could be a factor. I'd have a vet check Khobi - you may want to have them test for kidney disease (very common with Siamese cats).

In the meantime, try giving both Khobi and Leo Bach's Rescue Remedy. I put 4-6 drops in an ounce of water and give a droperful twice a day when some of my crew acts up. Seems to help.

Good Luck

Hmmm. Cats are hard to read--and they like it that way!

We have 3 cats, and all of them have very different personalities. They follow the pecking order 95% of the time, but every once in a while, for a few days, the lowest on the pole kitty tries to assert herself and will pick fights with the Queen, but it usually dies down after a few days of getting beat up!

The illness idea is interesting and sounds plausible, so maybe a visit to the vet might be in order. And maybe it's not illness but just that he's getting older and a little weaker and Leo senses that.
I also vote for a vet visit. A change in the hierarchy is not done on a whim, so there is something going on. And the fact that Khobi isn't fighting back is also a signal that a vet visit is in order.
