wetting in crate?

Hi...

I need some expert (forum) advice on what I am doing wrong with crate training Heart (9 weeks old). I spent last week at home 'bonding' with her and Monday morning had to get back to reality and go back to work.

I put her in her crate last week a couple of times building up to about 1.5/2 hours especially last weekend in preparation for this week. She did great.

I think I have done everything right. The crate size is 38 and I have the separator in it. Have toys and a bone with a hint of peanut butter on it. Right by the AC register. No water in the crate. I come home every 2 hours to take her out let her drink and let her run, less than 15 minutes.

Now the problem..............She has peed in her crate a couple times and I am concerned because I have heard as stated on this forum dogs generally do not pee where they sleep. Any advice?

I can't have anyone come into my house more frequently to let her out- I can't come home more often And at this point I can't take her to work with me...

Do you think its because she is so young? Again, I thought the general rule was 1 hour for every month-- (2 hours)---Hopefully, it's a maturity thing, but by that time will it be "habit"?

Any suggestions will be welcomed.

George peed in his crate loads of times.

We think he suffered from seperation anixiety a little bit.

He always did it within the first 20 mins or so of us leaving him, so we tried coming back a few times before we actually left him. It seemed to work most of the time.

We left him his comfort toys with him and when he was very little a jumper which also seemed to work.

I think it is just trial and error and finding what works for her.

Good luck
Vicki--

Thanks for the input..

I never thought of separation anxiety as a cause, but that may be. My other 2 dogs are free and, in my opinion, deserve medals for putting up with the hight pitched wailing right after she goes in the crate.

I throw her bone in, she goes in, sits and I close the door and the crying begins. I feel so bad leaving her (and them) like that.

I know I am very sleep deprived (she got me up ONLY 2 times last night) but what is a jumper? Sorry if it's evident.

Sorry a sweater!

It's the English word!!
She maybe wants to be with the other dogs!

Do they stay near her crate?
When I leave they are huddle around her crate just staring at her so I think they "visit' the crate from time to time..I think she would love to be free like them...BUT.. NO......
Clyde LOVED to pee in his crate. Not only would he pee where he slept, he'd pee anywhere-- and then lay in it. When he was young, there were days that I'd be in tears. It seemed like no matter how much we watched or tried to do everything right, he'd pee anyway. That age makes for very frustrating times!
