Ouray, CO

Yeaaaa, we finally made it!!! It was a loonnggg day. It started around 4:00ish with a LOUD crack of thunder. Woke us up and we noticed it was really dark in our room and the air was off. Hmm, look at the clock and nothing. Electricity was out. This is the first time this has happened to me in a motel. The dogs decide as long as we are up they want to go out  Alot of you know that I smoke and smokers have a fire source, in my case a lighter and I know right where it is. So I take the dogs out and climb back in bed till around 6ish. The electricity came back sround 8ish. We left around 9ish. The drive took a long time because we kept stopping to look at things we found interesting. What an amazing view we had around every corner and when we got here we were treated to a rainbow. We had some rain but not tooooo bad. You may notice I'm useing a lot of ish's...hey I'm on vacation, I don't watch the clock.

I forgot to tell you Simon's new trick. Driving in the car, he wants to be front and center and to keep him in back we tied a strap across the seats and it works....sorta. He pushes against the strap and lays his head on Randy's shoulder or mine. Its sooo darn cute.
I think you're in the most beautiful area of Colo. Year ago I took several jeep trips from Creede to Silverton over the continental divide. Hope you have a great trip.
Sounds like you're having a great vacation - the only thing missing is pictures!!
The pics I recently posted of our Colorado trip were from Engineers Pass from Lake City to Ourray. It was a long, but beautiful drive. Have fun!

I can't begin to count the number of times Joan and I crossed "the" continental divide. It became a running joke on the trip.... "Oh honey, look! We're going over the continental divide!"

It seems like nearly every state posts a sign like that at it's highest point! LOL
I dont know if you will get this in time but wanted to say I am not too far from you right now as I am in Gunnison visiting my Aunt. Maybe we could have a play date if you will be in the area????

i was fortunate enought to go to college in Durango, and then married my 1st husband and lived in Durango for 15 years........... The best part? I worked for the Forest Service as a law enforcement officer for 5 of those years. (yes i am a nurse) but that was the BEST job i have EVER had in my entire life! I was paid to wear a 'green pickle suit' as we called our uniforms, and paid to drive from Durango to Silverton and Ouray and Up in the back country roads 5 days a week and talk to the tourist...........collect fees in campgrounds etc.
I miss that job!!

I actually have (or had my mom sold it in one of her Dementia moments) an old antique car my grand father had restored, a 1908 Hupmobile that is in an old car museum in Ouray............. i'd give anything to have that car back...........
