I am fairly sure that my grooming inexperience is the cause. When Miley was a pup I asked one of our vets about plucking her ear hair and was told that I really did not need to. Since I was not comfortable plucking I took that advice. I did notice that whenever I had her groomed professionally (about every 6 wks) she came back with her ear hair plucked. Since I had her shaved down in May our trips to the groomers have been less frequent. Is it okay if I pluck a little each night to get them back in shape? She is content to let me work on them a little each night but after a while she is giving me the "Aren't you done yet?" look. On to the butt trimming questions..... I keep trying to get a nice clean trim but her butt keeps looking choppy. So what size sissors should I use - could some one recommend. A PetEge one would be wonderful - so I know what to order. Yeah I know a better sissors/shears still won't help in my hands. I keep practicing and re-reading the those but trimming threads. I can't seem to get the right line. Either I don't trim far enough or I trim too much. How far up the rump do you trim? Thanks for the advice |

No problems just plucking a bit here and there till all hair free in the canal also then you are not making her not wanting it done then. While she is happy pluck away then do some more the next day.
If you use an ear powder too, it makes it easier to pull the hair out with your fingers. Bio-groom has a good one and there are a few on the market and it helps keep the ears nice and dry so no moisture build up in there to cause bacteria to bloom in there. I use one sided thinning shears on the butt, then if a boo boo not so noticeable then. Keep practising it is the only way to learn to shape butts and I always look at it this way, a boo boo will grow back in no time. Tove did a diagram this may give you an idea there. Cut it from above the nub is where you start. Brush all the coat forward from there over the back, then bring down a thin layer then snip, start at the centre above the nub, work across to the side holding the scissors horizontal to the butt, then do the same the otherside of the layer starting at the nub again, then bring down thenext layer snip the same way and keep going till you have gone up far enough like the diagram shows. |
That first clip is the tough one to make because it feels so wrong! I couldn't do it myself-- Nita and Holly chopped Clyde for me at the picnic. He looks great! Now I have to blend everything else in because James calls him torpedo butt. |
its okay, panda has an orangatun butt...... |
lisaoes, loved the diagram, where can I get a copy? |

Not CHOPPED , trimmed and styled by hairdressers to the sheepies Sounds so much better then |
Lisa:
Thanks for the diagram - I missed that one. I think my problem is I was going to vertical and ended up with a flat butt. Yes - thank goodness it grows back fast. That has been the one thing that keeps me tying. I might try the ear powder after all the ear drops are done. Our vet prescribed 2 weeks of ear drops with daily cleaning. Miley, the little stinker, is starting to hide when I bring out the drop and cleaning fluid. So I have been adding belly rubs and treats as the reward. Thanks again Becky |
