Two of mine had unexplained hair loss. We had skin scrapings and a skin biopsy but a cause could not be found. I've heard the hair will eventually come back as gray.

It's usually nothing to worry about but if you're concerned you might speak with your vet. |
I call it Trauma hair, usually if they have scratched there or had some sort of incident to the skin the hair in that area usually grows back black.
It will eventually grow in grey in that spot, but takes awhile. |
Max has black hair in every area that was shaved during his surgery and recovery period. When I mentioned it to the Vet- he told me that he has a Black Lab that had injured her leg last year, and had stitches that required some shaving. When the hair grew back- it was white! Weird. |
Thanks to everybody for the replies.
I had white hair on Airdaile after injections which disappeared with time. So, the OES's have it black!! I think, the spot of the black hair has something like dry exema. I actually was afraid that it has something to do with skin tumors, like people have some rough hair on birthmarks. |
