My back is killing me

Why is it everytime I do floors my lower back goes into such pain. I was doing the floors today and I have to sit for a few min. Then I can go back to them for another 20. I take IB before and try to stand straight but I have to lean over some of times. This happens even when I wash the floors.

Anyone have any Ideas? And I cannot afford someone to come in and do them

it okay deana, it happens to me too....try to do some stretches between rooms...that may help a little and take the ib an hour before you start...i, also, actually get blisters on the tops of my toes from washing the floors bare-foot, moving around on my hands and knees...that kinda hurts later too 8O
Gee.....I thought I was the only one who scrubs floors on thier hands and knees. :o All of my friends use a mop and think I'm out of my mind crawling around on the floors to clean them. I do have to wear knee pads tho since I have bad knees to start with.
Hi Deanna,

I feel for you and I also do my floors occasionally on hands and knees. Although I'm not one to follow my own advice... I find pacing myself sometimes works...stop it if hurts, take a break and then return to it.

Hot baths help too. Wish I could offer more than my sympathies.

Age....... Arthritis......... disc problems......... Check with your doctor. Pain pills will help you more than OTC drugs.

Had to go myself. Was tested, and it was found that my bones are thinning, and I have lower disc deteriation, so I not only got an RX for pain pills, but also ended up getting one for Fosimax. Better to be safe now, than sorry later.

God bless.

I do my floors on my hands and knees too, much easier on the back!!

Hope you feel better, I feel your pain
Aahhh, I know that feeling. I have disc deteriation in my lower back, as well as arthritis in that region. AND I'M ONLY 27!!!!! They also diagnosed me with muscle spasms and a pinched nerve there as well, so no scrubbing floors that way for me anymore. Some days I can take a single step and fall to the floor in pain. Some days no pain at all. I was supposed to start going to a physical therapist, but they didn't call until a week before we left Alaska. Since we've left, it hasn't acted up very much at all. Maybe my body was simply protesting Alaska......
I know what you mean from the "hip" pain from washing the floors. My kitchen, livingroom, hallway, foyer, and two baths are all tile. So I have to vacuum them all first. I then take out my scunci (steam heat cleaner), and go over the whole floor again. Of course I have to move all the furniture around so the whole floor can be cleaned. It really does a job on my hips. I do this a number of times a week, so I feel I should have built up enough muscle to not be in pain, but that is not so. Even with my pain meds I take for my shingles, I'm still in pain when I'm done, so I usually go and sit in front of my computer and check out the OES.ORG Forum. :D while I rest and it takes my mind off of the pain.
Stopping and taking short breaks seems to be the best solution for aches and pains while washing floors.
Hi I have something that totally works.. its called wellpatch backache pain relieving pads. Trust me I've tried everything. These are these little pads that you put on your back. I love them they really do help. We got them at Walmart.
Yes, Ben Gay(OTC) has the back pain patch that works great also.
I swear by Salonpas pain patches. There are small ones and larges ones. I like the small ones because you can put them on pressure points.
I wash the floor by sitting on my butt and scooting backwards until I'm out of the room.
Have you tried doing some stretches before, during and after? Also any kind of yoga stretches might be helpful too.
