| He may have an infection. My sister's mutt was the same way. Always licking, but them again he was always humping too.
He got some hair caught on his "member" and it caused an infection. If you are worried about it, I would take him to the Vet. |
| I wish you had looked for a healthy "before" so you'd know what it is supposed to look like.
What you can see from the outside, and covered with hair is the "penile shaft". If you pull back a bit it should be a healthy pink inside the tip. In case of infection, there may be a creamy yellowish discharge there. Inside the shaft is the penis, which is not normally seen. In some fairly large percentage of dogs, the penis may become visible when the dog is sitting. It is normally quite red. About 2/3 of the way back in the penis is the Bulbous Glandis. This area can swell like a ball and get very large and hard at various times, including if the dog has a full bladder, or is sexually aroused. I'm not a vet, I hope this is the kind of stuff you need to know. |

| If your boy is not neutered yet, he's probably starting to come into his sexual maturity and they start secreting stuff... So that is probably what is causing all of the recent licking. (If you end up getting him neutered, both things you are talking about will be gone for the most part.) |
