What brand of food should I feed my OES?

Hi There,

My Onyx was on IAMS large breed puppy until 1 year old, and then on IAMS large breed adult since November 2006. She's never been an excited eater, only eating her food when she's absolutely hungry (but she always gets excited about treats or people food). I've gotten the impression that she doesn't love her food. I've been thinking about changing brands for quite a while, but I've just been hesitant because I don't know which to choose. She has a stomach of rocks (she ate day old, raw chicken meat out of the garbage and didn't throw up!) so i'm not too worried about digestion sensitivity, but she does have hip dysplasia, so I want to get something that is nutritious and good for her hips. I'm also on a very tight budget right now, so preferring something cheaper than IAMS. What dog foods have you tried and found successful (tasty and healthy!) that are good for OES coats, hips and overall health, as well as the wallet?

Thanks,

Crazyjeep

The ones I use are expensive so no help there, I use Eagle Pack Holisitic variety as well as Dick Van pattens organic.

Being your baby is only just one year old and still developing try if you can to make sure the dry is still a good quality one as they need it still for developement.

When you find a dry that you want to use, just transition over slowly to the new to not cause any problems there. What I usually do is 3/4 of the original one to 1/4 of the new one for a few days, see how that goes then up to 1/2 & 1/2 then 1/4 to 3/4 then over to the new one then, I tansition over a week to a new dry then usually no problems happen.
I feed Authority Brand from Petsmart. I feed the large breed one which has Glucosamine, Chondrotin, for joint health. It's a high quality food and my dogs seem to enjoy it.
Also...don't know if you are a member of Costco, but Kirkland makes a very nutritious line of dog food. My Male couldn't handle it because it was too rich (had lots of fruit and veggies in it) which caused the runs and gas. But my female really enjoyed it and did great on it. Being that they share food I had to switch them back to Authority (which is a bit more money than the Kirkland, but cheaper than IAMS.)
