All I can say is our breeder always uses Pro Plan Lamb and rice. Our Darcy (5 months old) likes it and our other 2 eat the same but it is for Seniors |
Great luck with Nutro Ultra. |
Our dogs are on California Natural. We occasionally alternate with a bag of Wellness or Solid Gold
Our holistic vet recommended Solid Gold, Wellness and California Natural. |
I rotate between Nutro Ultra, Canidae and Merrick. I think the next rotation we're going to try Innova. |
How important is it that you rotate their food?
We feed the same brand but a large puppy breed for Boomer and the active adult for Penny. She will eat his food if we let her and he will eat hers!!! But the problem is the large breed has less calcium and she need smore.... I just never thought about rotateing, i thought it was a bad idea, but we may try it. Shannon M |
Oscar eats Nature's Recipe Venison and Brown Rice. There will be no food rotation going on for Oscar, as it took 15 tries to find a food that didn't send his digestive system into a tailspin.

I feed Authority Brand (Petsmart)
My dogs the taste and most importantly they're tummys can handle it. No gas...nothing. I switch between Chicken and rice and Lamb and Rice. Pepsi can't handle much else. |

Shannon M Some research says that rotating your dogs' food will help them from becoming finicky and may assist in them ever developing food related allergies. None of my dogs have sensitive stomachs so transitioning them is easy and, I figure, worth the possible benefits. Some dogs are just too sensitive to try that with, though. |
I rotate too - for the reasons mentioned above. The 3 I have used:
Nutro large breed lamb and rice, Canidae and Chicken soup for the dog lovers soul. |
I just switched Wilson to Nutro lg breed Lamb & Rice. It really helped with his skin issues (licking legs) but more recently I think it is giving him mushy poop, which seems to be a hot topic on the forum lately. |
I know a lot of people don't like Iams, but Stella tried several different brands (even the really high-end stuff), and she really did best with Iams Lamb and Rice Large Breed.
Sampson is a different story. He has a VERY sensitive stomach, and for the last 2 weeks he has been eating a mixture of Iams Lamb and Rice Puppy food (dry), mixed with cooked white rice and cottage cheese. I give him his food twice a day, and keep him in the play pen for about an hour after he eats to avoid bloat. I'm taking him into the clinic on Saturday to check for worms and parasites. The others on here are probably a lot more experienced with sheepdogs and eating than I am though. |
I use Hills science diet t/d big bites. She loves it and does not need as much and excellent for their teeth |
Nigel's breeder feeds the puppies purina pro plan lg breed puppy. He seems to like it and is does well on it. I am considering changing my poodle to pro plan also, as she is not too fond of canidae. If his breeder has used this happily for years, it should be good for us. At least Purina wasn't involved in the past pet food crisis. |
