She has also learned that when I put on my shoes I am leaving so now she tries to lay on my feet to keep me from putting them on. Who says they aren't smart. Thanks |

We put Milton in his crate whenever we leave. That way we know for sure he can't get into anything while we're out.
It's been a really great tool and he's very well behaved...well, for a 5 month old. |
A crate or a puppy pen when you are not there is very helpfull while youngsters.
One of mine when a baby years ago, well in the Laundry on her bed when we had to leave her, chewed the bottom of my new washing machine, shredded her bed to pieces, the rubber pipes behind the washing machine (you should of seen what happened when I turned the washing machine on, WATER everywhere ), the door frame and the dry wall as well. It was like SUFFER you left me alone so pay the consequences. So from then on I used a puppy pen when we had to go out and leave a youngster on there own, pen or crate till the chewie, teething stage is well and truly over , sheesh. |
You can also coat your phone cords, and lamp cords with a non staining clear deodorant.
It taste really bad and keeps them from chewing. I used Secret clear gel and it worked!! |
I have the largest plastic crate, which made me feel less quilty about crating. All of the dogs like the crate and will often choose to take naps in there.
Now that they are older, I close them up in a safe room when we leave. |
Since I've been a "stay at home dog-mom" for a little over a year, I know that our dogs don't do much but lay around and sleep or chew on kongs all day. Crating isn't the cruel deed some of us have led ourselves to believe.
We had experiences similar to Lisaoes where Nelson ate everything at that age, including new kitchen cabinets, baseboard, drywall, shoes... everything! Provided that you have a large enough crate for your dog to stretch out, crating is much safer than having to worry about what they'll get into when you're gone. Nelson didn't grow out of the destructive phase until he was about 1-1/2 yrs. old. |
