"Pound seizure" is legal in many US states and basically allows for certain pet dealers and animal shelters to sell dogs to medical research facilities for use in experiments. This means that if a stray OES, or an OES that someone didn't want anymore ended up in one of these shelters that would rather get an easy buck from a research facility than a hard earned buck by adopting out, they could be stuck in a research lab where there are absolutely no minimum standards of care or treatment. Just thought that might interest some of you to know. (oh yea and if you didn't take me up on it the first time please visit www.navs.org to get a copy of the humane care handbook that tells you which corporations test on animals) |

Yeah...Here in Canada pound seizure is legal, too. But the labs pay for the dogs...a whole $5 each or something like that.
They like beagles, because they are accomadating and trusting... |
Stuff like that, to me, is another argument in favor of responsible breeding. Less dogs in the pound, no dogs to seize. |
In a perfect world, I would say do away with pre-clinical testing (testing on animals prior to testing on humans), and just go straight to human testing, using convicted child molesters, rapists, and murderers as subjects (those found guilty based on DNA of course, so no accidental innocent people).
Aside from being trusting, beagles also have a metabolism and a pharmacokinetic profile very similar to humans, and that is why they are used by many pharmaceutical clinical testing. The same goes for monkeys and pigs. Personally, I'd rather test on the people mentioned above. |
