Hip Popping

A few weeks ago I noticed Oliver's hips popping, I could feel them as he walked. Well, this week, I started being able to hear them popping. Then today, when I came home for lunch, I swear he was limping. After reading everything on hip displasia, I am worried. He still does the bunny hop, sits down a lot, slow getting up...

I called the vet, and we'll set a date for x-rays on Monday, maybe we can do them the same time he is neutered.

Am I just a worry wort, or should I be as concerned as I am? Pray that he just has growing pains!

I hope it's nothing. That would be a great idea to have the X-rays done while he is already sedated.
Praying that it's just growing pains!
Fingers crossed for him.
<growing pains, growing pains, growing pains> mantra started.
It's convenient you'll be able to have them x-rayed while he's already under. Hip dysplasia is always a scary thought - good luck come next Monday.
I'm rooting for growing pains! I'll be hoping for good news on Monday.
How old is Oliver?

Having the hips done under 18 months to 2 years of age you are really not going to get an accurate idea as to what is going on there and an accurate assessment as far as if it is a HD problem

If he is a youngster, if could be just the growth stage happening till he developes more, so a x-ray could show looseness there and that could rectify itself when the growth spurt is over with.

In the meantime, if he is under 18 months to 2 years, no overexercising him, letting him charge up and down steps, slip and slide on a slippery floor etc and it would not hurt to also supplement him on a joint formula. Safe guard those hip joints till the growth spurt is over, provided he is not in any pain at the moment, then if any problems still happening and he is around 18 months/2 years have them done then when the bone development is over .

I've got one sheepie that's had popping hips for over 2 years and the x-rays showed her hips are just fine. I've got another who's hips pop a little that's had confirmed hip dysplasia since she was 8 months old http://oesusa.com/MadisonXray.jpg . So it's good to have him x-rayed so you'll know for certain what you're dealing with... IF anything.

Please let us know how the x-rays turn out? Has he been started on Cosequin DS or another glucosamine or a chondroitin and possibly an adult buffered aspirin to start his day?
