Guinness and I participated in a healing healthcare day for the employees at one of the hospitals we visit. Guinness was even pictured on the flyer (he was in full coat and the week before I gave him a not so perfect summer cut ) The coordinator of the healing paws program called me to see if I would be in that day, it was our scheduled day. I said of course!! She said everyone wanted to see the dog that looked like a stuffed animal( uh...he doesnt look like that now...) The nurses really appreciate the time to see him and often state they need his visit more than the patients. He was in his glory!! We had a stressful day at the assisted living center we visit, residents dying etc. He and I really needed a boost. A group of ladies came in (apparently from an area that we don't visit) They were looking so longing at him as he looked at them. His eyes and body said come on touch me. They just stood and talked about how cute he was etc. I could not figure out why they stood so long and did not reach out to pet him (guinness was wondering too) finally one lady reached out ever so gentle and gave a quick touch. One of the other gals whispered you are not supposed to touch him.........They thought he was a service dog!!!! When I told them he was a therapy dog and was there to be touched, it was so funny , all four just converged on him and he was ecstatic!!!! I was pleased they did follow the rules even if they did not know what kind of work he did ! Some asked me if he was my dog, thinking he was a service dog in training. Everyone knew his name but I can bet you no one knew my name It was a fun day I even got a hand massage, Guinness smelled like lavender because folks got a hand massage and proceeded to pet him!!!! |

Oh, what a good boy Guinness is!
And how nice that they have healing days for their employees, including dogs and lavender hand massages! |
They had fifteen min chair massages but I was not going to take time away from the staff!! I really really would have liked that!!! They had clowns and music and giveaways etc. It was nice for the staff and Guinness and I had a very good day too. One of the clowns let him share her icecream!!!! |
There have been a couple of posts the past few weeks about people's experiences with their therapy dogs. If you are a member, the OESCA's last OES Times has an article about a woman and her OES therapy dog (Sandy? or something like that). Nice little story. |
