OES Show Videos

Hello Guys,

Do you know where I can buy show videos of OES? I would like to collect videos from the OESCA Specialities. I would also like to ask if you know videos teaching how to properly handle OES in showring?

thank you,
John

While I haven't watched any of the videos, have you checked out YouTube? It looks like there are some that show up but they are likely amateur videos.

I put video up on YouTube from last year's OES National. I have same user name there as I do here. Here is one of Smokin the Specialty winner - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DuYCY_C2t8 and you can look up the other videos. Quality is not good but you will get the idea. The Capricorn's Classic Commotion bitch is owned/handled by Maxmm here on the forum in case you're wondering why there are so many of them together.

You should also be able to purchase a DVD of the US National from the Old English Sheepdog Club of America if they are still available - http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamerica.org/ Not sure who you should contact about that, perhaps Barbara Lamb. If you have trouble, please let me know and I'll see if I can find out.

Also you can see the 2007 Westminster KC OES breed judging video here - http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/20 ... ndex2.html Only bad thing about that video is that the ring was pretty small and it was difficult for anyone to get a good gait the dogs.

Good luck with your dog, not sure if the Phillippines handle the same way as they do in the US. Do they offer conformation/handling classes in your area? That's how we learn here plus through mentors at the dog shows.
You should contact the Historian/Librarian of the OESCA; Barb Baker. Here's her email: BKB426@aol.com I know that she has the video from almost every national to date. You can borrow them from the club for a fee.

If you need any printed mater you should contact the Information Materials person for the OESCA and that would be me!! Drop me a line if you need more info.
Thanks Maxmm, Verveup and RojoMom for the tips!

Hi Maxmm,
I'll try to contact Barb Baker of OESCA and hopefully she can send some show videos. Would you know if OESCA has its quarterly magazine? If they have I would love to subscirbe.

Hi Verve Up,
We don't really have any regular handling classes. If someone really wants to learn how to handle thier dogs they have to work hard a little by watching shows and asking handlers. Right now I'm the one handling my chow chows and I'm just thinking if their is a different technique or strategy in handling OES.

I'm not sure of the standard of the chows, but when stacking OES the goal is to make the dog look as square as possible. Don't bring the hocks back too far. Take a good look at the picture of where the head should be as you don't want to extend forward it too much. This is something you need to be conscious of, because you do want to emphasize the length of the neck and it's easy to have the head in the wrong position. I've also seen judges do an imaginary square with their fingers checking squareness. If you stack your dog as squarely as possible, it will also help the top line be in the correct position too.

You also want to gait slowly, I'm sure more so than the Chow. (I used to always gait to too fast when I did it because I was so nervous.) You want them to amble a bit without pacing.
Hi again John!
The OESCA does have it's magazine. Currently, you can't subscribe to just the magazine, it's a perk of membership, but you can order back issues from, of all people, ME!! They are 3 dollars an issue and since you are outside the US, you'll have to pay shipping. Drop me a PM and let me know what you are interested in and I'll get you set up.
