Just wanted to share my news with you all- This past Friday I brought home my new baby- Oliver! He is a 6 month old, beautiful OES male that I got from a couple that had to get rid of him due to job changes. These job changes left them keeping him in a crate for 12-14 hr days- then back in the crate all night- making his out of crate time about 2-3 hours a day. I have been talking with them for about a month. In the beginning they wanted A LOT of money for him. Remember the post under the DOGS IN TROUBLE topic- Chicago sheepie? Well I too had saw the ad, and was already talking with these people when it was posted- but didnt want to post or add anything because I didnt want to lose out on this dog. They said they would come down in price but still it was way more than I was willing to pay. My husband and I felt giving them some big price would be wrong, but we did agree to pay something in line with what a shelter or rescue group would charge. We couldnt agree on anything in between and that was that. About 3 weeks went by, and the wife called and answered my prayers- saying she could care less now about any money- she just couldnt bare to crate this dog another day- and how quick could I come get him? She said they really felt he would be happiest with us, and that he would become a family member- not a breeding machine like some of the calls they had recieved. So I grabbed my leashes, collar etc and ran out the door! What I arrived upon was a beautiful home, super nice people, and a dog that they obviously love. After a teary goodbye, my new baby and I were on the road! He is SO wonderful- calm, great car rider, potty trained, knows some commands- he actually comes when we say come! He stops in his tracks and comes running to you when you say Oliver come! This is something that at age 3 my female OES, Millie still refuses to do! He is fallen into our routine here just like he has been here for years. He seems to love it here so far and he is just smitten with Millie! He does everything with gusto- eats plays sleeps you name it! He is a bag of bones though- you can feel every vertabrae and rib. Im really used to my big momma Millie at 92 lbs! He is in full puppy coat and spotless clean. Well WAS spotless clean- after coming here, with 2 daily dog park outings, playing in the lake and rough housing with Millie he looks like a little ragamuffin! Crate life is gone and so is his clean exterior. So Wednesday he has his first grooming, and Friday he sees the vet for a check up and to schedule a neuter. We are crating him if we have to leave the house just to protect him from himself- he is a goofy, klutzy inquisitive little clown! He looooooovvvves Millie- but so far she is tolerant. She has been gentle and sweet to him- but not too thrilled either! This little guy didnt sit down for the first 24 hours he was here- I think that got old with Mils. Heck it sure got old with me! I can laugh now, but at 4 am Sat morning I was still up, while he was trotting around with a squeek toy, thinking "I AM NUTS" I think he just didnt know what to do with himself with all this freedom. Thankfully, that has passed and I have not stop thanking these people in my heart, for making the decision to find him a new home instead of letting him grow up in a crate Sorry this is so long- Thanks for reading! I so look forward to sharing stories with everyone and seeing some of you at the picnic! Oh by the way Deborah- if you happen to read this- please change my RSVP from 2 to 3! Becky, Millie and Oliver I will post pictures soon! (Now that I have finally figured out that Avatar isnt the name of someones dog! ) I thought that name was awfully popular on this list! |

Becky:
It sounds as though Oliver has landed in a perfect home for him. I'm just glad that his former family was caring enough to realize that growing up in a crate was not a good situation. Good Luck and keep us informed on the new, energetic guy. Jennifer, Baxter & Cassiopia |
This is aweosme!!!!Oliver sounds like a total joy!!Sounds like he is one lucky guy to be loved so much,by his 1st home too let him go,and then be lucky once again to find you...WOW!! Mickey,Jagger, and myself want to say congradulations too all of you!!! |
Congratulations to you and Oliver! I love the happy ending stories.
And good for the former owners for understanding that crate training can be wonderful but not when it becomes a jail for an active growing puppy. Anyone who needs to crate a dog 20 hours a day, every single day, just should not have that dog. |
Oh, Happy Oliver! Wonderful story! Thanks for hanging in there..........and saving him from spending his life in some puppy mill. |
Welcome to the forum, Becky, Millie, and Oliver!
Yes, I remember this story, and I am so thrilled for a happy ending. He sounds like he is fitting in wonderfully. I can't wait to hear more about your fur family. Thanks for sharing. Stormi and co. |
Becky,
Congrats! I'm so happy for you and for OLIVER! His previous owners did the right thing - and I'm glad they realized that the dog's future was more important than recovering some of the cost. That's a very hard thing for people to overcome. Oliver will be forever grateful to you! I wish you the best! May he be in his furever home and live a happy, long, healthy life! I had an OES named Oliver who passed away in September 1999 - he was my BABY and not a day goes by that I don't think of him! So any OES named Oliver holds a special place in my heart! Kristen |
