I am a breeder and i advertise on puppyfind.com I don't ship and i don't meet. they have to come to my house they have to fill out paper work. and they can see for themselves if that is the puppy they want. if you go in and look at the breeds and on the bottom of the page it says view all breeders listings and you see like 15 different breeds and they all have puppies verses a breeder that only has one or two different breeds. go with the one that has the least because chances are they are the real thing and not a puppy mill. and they care about there dogs and puppies. and also try to find one that is in driving distance and if they insist on meeting you someplace instead of letting you come to the kennel i would stay away from them chances are they have something to hide. |

In my opinion, there are few, if any, reputable, good breeders on puppy find...read through this forum and see the health conditions of some of the puppies gotten from a "good breeder" on puppy find...
Not sure what the big deal is to getting one off the referral list???It's not hard...why don't people just do that??? |

Because they want to try to get "a deal" on their dogs. They can usually find an OES for much less money on there. But most don't realize they are VERY lucky if they don't end up having to pay the amount they saved in medical bills for the sick dog they just purchased. |
And people buying from them are supporting the puppy mills. If there was less of a demand and less people buying, there would be less incentive for those so called breeders.
By the way, I looked at some of those ads in puppy find and some are not much less, and even on par, with the price you'd pay through a reputable, trustworthy breeder off the referral. |
Most of the time, I don't think it's even the money. It's the fact they want a puppy NOW. They go online, pretty much click "buy" and that's it. Immediate gratification. No reason to think it over, no reason to do research. Worry about the "should I have" part later. |
...especially with a sheepdog. My God, people just ahve NO IDEA what they are getting themselves into.
These are not sleepy dogs or low maintenance dogs; these are puppylike for years on end, with high maintenance requirements and expenses. One friend of ours had a smallish (60 pounds?) GSD who was the bestest dog ever... he was so laid back, protective, meek, obedient, alert, smart... I loved that dog "Calaba". |
Finding a puppy on Puppy Find. As I said in my other post about PF I feel that I/we were very lucky to have found Bella. She is a great dog and very healthy according to my vet. I also said that if I had found this site first I might not have used PF. Having said that though I did do a lot of work before we got Bella. I did check to see how many other types of dogs the breeder had. I did talk to the breeder and ask a lot of questions. The breeder that I selected asked a lot of questions as well. So it is possible to use PF but I believe now it is more of a crap shoot than I would take again. I wish that there was a way that PF could eliminate the mills from their site but I doubt that there is.
Like most, if not all, of the people on this site, I believe that there is a special place puppy mill owners will spend eternity. I guess in closing I'd ask the person that started this thread if being associated with the mills is worth the association with PF? |
