I have an 11 month old sheepdog that was diagnosed with demodex on her back. Her skin was red and scabby and she lost a lot of hair. My vet recommended putting her on ivomec. She had to be 1st tested to make sure she was able take this medicine. In some sheepdogs it could be dangerous. She has been on it for a month and a half. The skin is no longer red, the scabs are gone and her hair is starting regrow. She goes back to the vet in a week for a skin scraping to see if she still has any mites. |

That's wonderful news, Garry... and WELCOME to the forum!
What is her name? Please be sure to let us know the results of the latest scraping, too. |
Sounds like you are on the road to recovery. My 11 months (Gabby) also has demodex. Gabby also lost a ton of hair. It took us three months and a new vet to determine her mite problem. The first vet did a scraping, but it most not have been deep enough. We moved to the thyroid and when that was fine they said it had to be a food allergy. So again when I went to a allergy free diet and that didn't work we found a new vet. Within 20 minutes at the new vet they said she had demodex. My poor dog is bald on her back. We are also on the same medicine, but it has only been a week. I can see a change in her skin and sores. The sores are beginning to heal, with the help of an antibiotic. We have another appointment on August 1st to see how she is progressing and another scraping. My vet said this is going to be a timely process. I just want my baby to look normal. |
Pebbles also had a lot of hair loss on her back. The 1st month on ivomec the sores went a way and the skin turned back to a normal color but no hair regrowth. It just started to regrow last week after 6 weeks on ivomec.
It seems to be filling nicely. Good Luck!!!! |
