Reason I was wondering, I felt bad for Obe and started cutting on Sunday (extremly hot). I tried shaving and must of had dull blades or something was not working at all. Not because of mats. So I grab a pair of scissors and started cutting. Lets just say, glad I am not a barber. I plan on taking him in and getting him shaved to about 3/4 or an inch. Do not want to go shorter than 3/4 though. But...It seems to me that he is still just as hot as he was in full coat, or at least he acts like it. |

Shon have you got a rake or wide tooth metal comb?
Strip the undercoat out by raking it or with the comb, get rid of that and that should help. |
I have never been a sheepie, but I imagine it would
be the difference between a t-shirt and a long heavy wool cape in 90 degree weather. For what it's worth, it takes my dogs a day or two to adjust to short fur, whether I do it in March or in July. They either shiver or pant for a couple days depending. I do think the extra couple of inches can keep the dog that much hotter. I agree with lisaoes, the less undercoat the less hot. That lessens the difference in coat length. Shellie |
