Age: 2 years 7 months Size: A whopping 107 lbs., but don't tell him that he thinks he's a lap dog. Special Tricks: He can say Donut ("rorut") and Hot Dog ("roggog"), but only if you actually are holding one. Bad Behavior: Milo has a very dominant attitude. never has bitten anyone, but displays serious food aggression and runs when he decides he doesn't want to come back inside. he's seems highly intelligent, but i'm not so sure thats a good thing. Any help would be appreciated, we love him but he has a heck of a scarey growl. |

When Milo growls order him into a down position and make him stay there for a time. You are the boss. Same thing with food aggression. You must teach him you are the "food giver and the food take-awayer."
Feed him meals one kibble at a time making him sit or go into a down for each and every kibble. Yes, it takes a long time to feed him this way, but he learns you control the food. In fact for every treat, make him sit or better yet, go into a down & stay. Once you put him back on the bowl for feeding, take it away from him before he finishes and return it. If he growls.........no more food and back to one kibble at a time. The growling is like a child testing you to see who will rule the roost. You don't want the dog (or child) in charge. Of course after he finishes his meal without growling, give lots of praise. |
