Aprox 6 wks ago little kitty was taking a stroll in the middle of the road, got hit by a truck, then several other vehicles hit him causing him to roll in the middle several times. A good samaritan raced out and tried to sit him up ,human- like while blood poured from his wounds. Another more knowledgable samaritan pulled over and said she'd take over. Instructing her sister to drive a standard for the first time she placed kitty on her lap while both raced to the emergency pet hospital. She would not allow the vet to put kitty to sleep, although he said there was little hope. He was a little stray but she said she would adopt him and to please give him a chance. He survived the first night, broken jaw, lacerations and wounds all over his body...little fighting spirit! Two surgeries later , the SPCA hospital called me and asked me to foster Broken Jaw kitty. When I peered into his pen..he was purring!!! Tomorrow "Jaws" will have his wires removed and dunno if they are going to do something with his snaggletooth as you can see his fang sticks out. I think with his "piercings" and upturned lip he kinda looks like a typical teen. Good news too as the good samaritan has visited often with her mom and sister. He'll be going home with them possibly this week! They were approved by the spca to be his new family!! Dusty (previous rescue) is sad his pal is leaving soon as they are buddies, but he's happy he's going to a very good home. I've had Jaws for six weeks and tomorrow is his checkup and then possible removal of the wires on Tues. Going to miss him very much. |

Another happy ending to a great rescue story - a al Marianne!! I do so appreciate all you do for the animals in your area. You're an inspiration. |
Sniff sniff, The hospital is going to keep him for 1-2 days. They may not do the surgery tomorrow but a dental expert for pets will be visiting so they want her to look at "Jaws". If she doesn't have time to do the surgery herself as least she can advise the vets as to what to do about his protruding fang. Then they'll do the surgery themselves Wed.
Felt awful leaving the little guy there in a cage. On a lighter note:The vet who checked him out today was amazed ..here he is manipulating his jaw, sticking his fingers in his mouth, pushing on teeth and jaws ...and the little creature was PURRING!!! How can you not help but love him!! Sigh going to miss him lots when he goes. Thanks Beau's mom! I get paid back a thousand ways..such as above. Can't save them all but for the one we can ..what a difference in their lives. Marianne |
Wow a Miracle Kitty!
I hope all goes well with the surgery. I bet her new owners can't wait to get her home. |
Those are both adorable cats!
I hope all goes well for little fang. |
Marianne, I'm not sure how you do it-giving up the animals that you save- but THANK GOD YOU DO!!!! You are truly an inspiration to all of us. |
The only way I can give them up is when I meet the potential foster parents who come to my home after being screened first and approved by the SPCA. One time a young couple showed up and although they had been approved I didn't get a good feeling after the young woman stated that cat was not allowed on her new 200 jeans. I had a feeling she would return the kitten the first time it did something which she dissaproved of.
Glad I stuck to my guns as the person next in line was the most loving caring woman who immediately sat on the floor and played with that cat. The SPCA listened to me and allowed the cat to go to the second woman. It wasn't always like this for foster parents. As little as three years ago after caring and neutering fosters we had no say as to who they went to, nor any deals ourselves if we chose to keep them. Now we are listened to and we get the kitties for 1/2 price if we can't part with them. Letting "Jaws" go will be tough but knowing he's going to a wonderful home makes me feel okay about it. It also frees up space to help another one. The shelter I foster for is a high kill one and freeing up space means another one is saved. Dusty was a special case, they wanted me to return him to the shelter to give him more exposure before the kitten season arrived and his chances would almost be nil for adoption. It was with a heavy heart I returned him as all the others were adopted from my home. Dusty, somehow got lost in the shuffle and was mistakenly transferred from the shelter to another one 100 miles away! That shelter flooded and then he ended up at Petcetra where he would be transferred yet again to another shelter at the end of his 30 day stay. Day 29 after finding out where he was I adopted him so he's with me forever. Marianne |
