It appears that one of the tires blew and the trailer started swaying violently. I could not control the vehicle, and we weaved back and forth across the highway, while slowing down. Then I made the BIG mistake of braking and we jack-knifed and rolled over one and a half times. We ended up on the driver's side so had to climb out the passenger side window. Once of the propane tank hoses was torn off and was hissing so that was really scarey. We got bumpeds, cuts etc, and my son's friend re-injured his knee, but other than that we are all fine. We we so glad that we travel with the leashes on the dogs, so that we could grab them quickly. The highway was closed down and an off-duty police officer got things going. Dixie was bleeding everywhere and the police officer put her and Bosley in her car, while we did the reports, got checked by the paramedics etc. Then we brought Dixie to a vet and the policie office, Rosa, came in to make sure a vet was available to see her right away...Or she was takign us to another vet. Both dogs were checked, and Dixie got stitches. Bosley was so happy to get attention he was giving kisses to everyone. Here are the van and trailer at the storage facility once they were turned up and towed away. We were very lucky, but by the time we rolled we were not going fast, so it was a slow motion roll. We got a rental van and continued on the next day...with sore muscles and LOTS of Advil.. |

You guys are SO lucky that no one was seriously hurt.
Glad you are all home safe and sound. What about your van and trailer.....are you able to get replacements for both of them? |
Thank "GOD," you're all ok! |
Wow! I am so glad that you all made it through with the injuries you received and not worse.
You did much better than I would have - I probably would have tried the brakes sooner. Soreness is normal for several days as the bruises and muscles heal. And I am thinking that Dixie is moving so slow in getting up and down because the stitches are pulling a bit due to their location. And being the wonderfully smart girl she is, she has realized it's not good to have them pull out. Sending heal quicker thoughts for all of you. |
How truly terrifying that must have been for all of you. Thankfully you are all safe!!! I can't begin to imagine how scary that must have been!
Just the other day I stopped and helped a teen and his 12 year old sister whose van had been hit by a truck that blew a red light. The girl was sobbing, saying it was supposed to be a good day as it was her birthday. I responded that in some ways it was as while the family van was damaged her and her brother were safe. She managed a smile at that. Looking at in in a positive way for you as well...material things can be replaced. I'm sooooo thankful your family, furballs and you were okay. The boys are sending Dixie big sloppy kisses. Hope she's feeling better soon! Marianne |
OMG!! are you all ok!!!!
|
OMG - that is a bad wreck. You are so incredibly lucky. Thank goodness you were going slow.
Were the dogs afraid to get in a vehicle again? |
I am happy that you all survived such an ordeal with only a few minor injuries. Crashes are so very violent!
Trailer brakes are a must. |
My gosh Nicole, the photos of your vehicle looks awful! So glad you all came out it alright for the most part. Must have been very scary. |
This sounds absolutely dreadful. I am so glad the injuries are not worse than they are. It is astonishing that you all came out of it so well. What an awful way to end a wonderful vacation. |
OMG! You are so lucky you weren't injured worse. I guess the slower speed helped that. How scary! I had been a passenger in an accident where a Volkswagon Van overturned 5 times and I was in VERY bad shape.
Glad you are all okay and an EXTRA big for Dixie! |
You are SO lucky that no one was seriously hurt!
Thank "God", you are all OK |
That is absoutly dreadful!! I am so glad that everyone was okay and EXTREMELY grateful the Dixie only had minor injuries.. It could of been so much worth
When Nicole called me Tuesday night with the news.. I think the first words out of my mouth were "are the dogs okay".. that is my biggest fear when travelling with my dogs.. that we will get in an accident. I don't think I have ever been so glad to get a phone call with the words "we are home". |
Oh, wow, Nicole....very scary! I'm so glad everyone is okay. |
Wow, Nicole! How incredibly scary and horrible I'm very glad that everyone got out without more serious injuries. |
Gosh, Nicole that must have been a frightening ordeal. Things happen so quickly in an accident. Thank the Lord that you are all OK with only minor injuries.

Sending over heaps of the above, just so glad no one was seriously injured. Cars and trailers can be replaced, you and your family can't. So glad you are all home and safe. Give dixie special gentle belly rubs from all of us and so glad to read in the other post that she is doing well now. |
Oh my goodness how frightening! How was your dog with getting back into a car?? I'm so glad you are ok, lots of gentle hugs

Goodness gracious what an awful ordeal! You're so very fortunate to have come out with only minor injuries. Thank goodness you're all okay and sweet Dixie is recovering nicely.
What a thoughtful officer, too, to have taken you to the vet and made sure you were being seen immediately. |
I'm so glad everyone will heal and that there were no serious injuries. Give Dixie and Bosley an extra snuggle for me! |

And poor Spencer's friend who was mugged during the trip and then banged up his previously injured knee in the accident. . . Good life lessons for the young man, I guess. Sheesh! |

Oh my gosh Nicole. I have been away a few days and that is just awful. I am glad that you are basically all okay. Take care of sweet Dixie - I want to see her jumping baby gates soon. I still think of that video you posted of her sailing over the gate. I made my whole family watch it! |
