Dixie was in a Car Accident
My dear, sweet Dixie got the worst of it. When we were getting her out of the wreckage there was blood everywhere from her front leg. The police officer put her in the back seat of her car and once we got all the paperwork and reports etc done we were all taken immeidately to the closet vet hospotal where Dixie and Bosley were both checked out and observed for 4 hours. Dixie got one leg shaved and 8 stiches, and she is presently on antibiotics and Metacam for the pain. It would appear that she got cut on a piece of broken windsheild. She did not eat for 2 days, as her food got shrewn everywhere and we could not find the same type anywhere. We bought some Canidae, and she turned her nose up at it....Unless it had some cooked chicken in it...  So now she is peeing and pooing fine....but she is very stiff when getting up from laying down...and then again, when getting into a laying donw position. She gets down very gingerly, like an old arthitic dog would.
But when she is up on her feet she is her old self...jumping and active and wanting to play. I am bringing her in to my vet tomorrow for an exam and to take hr bandages off. Here she is the evening of the accident:

But she is much better, now, except for the stiffness getting up and down...Plus she has worried that bandage down the leg so that many scratches are exposed...I hope she doens't need to wear a cone...She will not be imoressed I am sure. |

| Oh poor sweet Dixie! I am so glad her injuries were not worse. It is just awful that this happened. I will look for the other post to learn more about the accident. I am really glad Dix is on the mend. When I saw the topic of this thread, I was so glad to see it was in Medical and Nutrition and not some other section of the forum. . . It must have been awful having to wait to get all the paperwork done before you could get Dixie to the vet but it was really nice that the police took you there.
My dogs also reject undoctored Canidae. They will only eat it with a yummy canned food mixed in. I hope Dixie feels better soon. |

The trauma of the accident may have left Dixie............unaligned. Just like humans, perhaps a doggie chiropractor would help. Good deep muscle massages would feel good too........for everyone 
Once her wound is healed, maybe some hydrotherapy......does she like to swim? What a way to ruin a vacation, but I'm glad this was the only major injury. |

| Thank God you guys are all ok. Things could have turned out worse, while its inconvenient that your car and trailer are gone, its a blessing that Dixie only had relatively minor scrapes and bruises.

| Just got back from my vet. We removed Dixie's bandages, and all looks well in that area, so next weekend the staples come out.
She is getting a bit bouncy, now, but still hasn't tried to get up on the couch or bed, so I imagine she is still sore. The vet is concerned about her back, so I am to keep an eye on her movement, continue the Matacam, and keep her activity level low over the next week. I asked about physiotherapy, and we will see how she is over the next week to see if there will be a need for it. I am so glad my baby is getting back to her old self. She attacked Bosley this morning, from the bottom of the stairs, like she always does first thing in the morning..
And the rest of us are doing fine on Advil.....Quite stiff in the mornings, and a bit sore still, from bruises, but overall we are doing very good. I am getting too old for this kind of physical trauma!!! |

| Nicole I have been away and just read this, thank god everyone is allright, so terribly glad to hear Dixie in on the mend too, such a dreadful scare for you all, cars can be replaced, people or dogs can't so am so grateful you all are doing OK.
