We only discovered it as he's been constantly licking his paw tonight. He doesn't seem to be in any real pain though other than it being an irritation. He's got an appointment tomorrow morning at the vets - who told us over the phone not to bandage it overnight. Has anyone else's dog had this injury? |

Oh ouch! No, never have (that I can remember), but we have had our share of foxtail seed heads caught up betweent the toes and that sore is an open sore. Probably what the vet is going to examine. Usually a good cleaning and antibiotics and it's a done deal. I'm trying to remember if we bandaged afterward.......and how we kept the bandage on, LOL! Hmmm......... let us know how "Wounded Foot" comes out. |
Oh that sounds like it might be a sore one and hope all gets well soon |
Well, he's been to the vets and the good news, hopefully, is that it's not a split or impact injury but a skin infection which could have been caused from a number of things. The wound was quite deep (which is why we thought it was his paw that had split) but didn't seem to cause him any serious pain other than irritation.
He's being treated with a daily antibacterial footbath, antibiotics, lotions and a sock and collar to stop him licking all our hard work!! The skin seems to be reacting well but he's very sleepy and lethargic, which we think is due to the antibiotics. Anyway fingers crossed and he should be back to his mischevious best this time next week. |
Good thing you took him in. Sounds like it is all under control. Good luck and hope he feels better soon. |
That's great. Just keep an eye on it and take him back in if it doesn't improve. Ben had a grass seed embeded in his foot and it took some minor surgery to get it out. |
