I called IAMS. They said they haven't had any reported problems. I called my vet and she said to have them fast today and try again tomorrow. I'm sure it's nothing...but when Murphy got sick he started with unexplained vomiting so I'm especially edgy about it. Any advice?? |

That's odd.
Just a thought - Did you clean out your container before adding the new bag? The oily residue can become rancid. . . |
You could fast today and then start them on rice and ground beef or chicken for a few days. Then maybe try a different food with similar ingredients to see if that affects them. You would have to factor in a food change to their health, but changing food doesn't make them throw up.
Could they have eaten something weird outside? The suspicious thing is that two dogs got sick...not just one |

I did not clean out the container but it is new and was only used with a partial bag previously so it should be fine. Amanda P wrote: Could they have eaten something weird outside? No. Lucy is walked on a leash so I can guarantee she didn't get into anything. Parker doesn't play with the dog toys so really the only thing I can think of that they have in common is the food and water. The water is of course changed frequently and yesterday was the first time they have eaten from the new bag of food. It's just so weird. |
Did you notice a malodor when you emptied the bag? Sometimes the dog food is exposed to heat and goes bad long before it's expiration date. I've had to throw out food I just opened. Figured it was cheaper and more convenient that sick dogs. |
I hope they get better.
We had the same thing 2 weeks ago. Our dogs rarely throw up after a meal. Riley throws up if she goes too long between meals (she gets a dog cookie 30 minutes before meals) and Ben only throws up when he is obstructed. Bailey never throws up. The morning after the new bag (not Iams) was opened, Ben and Riley threw up 30 minutes after breakfast. And off and on all day. Just about the time we thought we needed the emergency vet, Ben threw up a washcloth. Both of them got chicken and rice for dinner, with no further problems. Bailey had to get her chicken and rice too - she wouldn't eat until we added some to her dog food. We tossed that bag of food on the theory that it was cheaper and easier to do that than have sick dogs and pay more vet bills. We always clean out the bins between bags and let them dry out for a couple of days before using. I do think I might be getting new carpet out of this though... |
