brandy is going through a phase, jack does the same now and again.
here's the best advice i've read, though it will probably be frowned upon by everyone else here. when your dog jumps up and bites at your hands and arms, it is just play, the best way to stop it is to express dislike for the action in some way (at your discretion), then praise brandy, so she knows that you are not mad. she is only trying to show affection, and outwardly discouraging her affection will desocialize her. but if you correct the affection, then give some of your own, she knows you arent mad, but she was wrong. you'll hear a lot of advice, i don't pretend to know everything (unlike some people) but this works with my sheepdog who is only about 4 weeks older. When a puppy does something like this, yelp like another puppy that has been hurt and then go away. They learn to play rough like this isn't fun if the play partner is hurt and goes away. When they gnaw on you, stick a chew toy in their mouth and praise. Sheepies are quite well known for this gnawing even after teething. Indeed this is a phase and one of the main reasons I now prefer my sheepdogs to be "used".......rescues. I've been gnawed on enough, thank you. |
