If they are not home all day, are they even aware of all the barking?
I think I would start there. Either in person or a short note. |
I finally had to call animal control on my neighbors. I let things go for a long time and then finally, I'd had enough-- both for me and his poor dogs. He's leave them out in the freezing cold for hours in the winter in his own yard. The one of his dogs (a fear biter) started getting into our yard and he'd leave him there for hours, too. I tried to get the guy and he wouldn't answer his door. After the 15th time, I called animal control. You figure, the guy knew the dog had gotten in the yard all those times-- he had to come and get him. If someone's that inconsiderate, and especially after repeated offenses, sometimes you have to get authorities involved.
Honestly, since I called, he's been treating the dogs better. He moved their tieouts to the other side of his yard so the barking has cut down a lot. He also doesn't leave them out as long unattended. They have also quit destroying my fenceline since they were digging under to get into my yard. We were never super friendly with the guy but, after a couple of months, he was fine, too. I think he had time to think about it and thought, "Yeah, I was the jerk in this case. Guess I can't be too mad." |

animal control here too has solved most of our problem for now. Here, the first time... they just get a letter saying 'someone complained, these are the rules, follow them." second time... they get a letter saying they will be fined next. third time... which has to include some sort of proof (picture, whatever), they go to their house and fine. I regret taking so long to call since it takes 3 times before their rears are busted. The animal control always suggest trying to handle it yourself first (letter or going to them), which we did. In fact, they sent me a copy of the letter they sent to this guy, and it suggested he go to all the homes and apologize for his actions. Thought that was funny b/c he wouldn't do that if someone paid him. |
ditto on the animal control.
Most likely your community has some kind of noise ordinance. I wouldn't even bother contacting the neighbor, chances are they will do nothing and then when animal control does show up they will know exactly who called. I would just call animal control. |
Animal Control. Let them take care of it. We had a neighbor who put their dog in a dog run and left. The dog cried as if it was being tortured. They had a big fenced in yard but didn't like stepping in doggy doodels(just pick them up), hence the dog run. I listened for a while, couldn't take it anymore and let the dog out of the dog run. The dog was happy as a clam. This went on for about two weeks and one day she asked me if I was letting the dog out and I said yep that was me. She just said "Oh" and never left the dog out in the dog run again. |
We have spoken to them before about just letting the big dog run the neighborhood.
I think they work 2nd shift and put the dogs out on the fenced in porch when they go to work. This is when they bark their fool heads off. When they are home from work they let the big dog run loose. I dont understand why people like that even have pets. It annoys the daylights out of me. All my other neighbors take such good care of their pets. You would think these people would get the hint. We all either have fenced in yards and/or dont let our dogs outside unattended. |
