I am DOOMED. One of my biggest shows of the year (The Girdwod Forest Fair) is happening this coming weekend. Im supposed to have about 65 framed peices, and maybe 200 shrink wraps ready by Wednsday night (we set up Thursday). With 22 peices left to frame, aprox. 20 peices still in various states of not doneness, (silk paper collages that need to be finished, block prints that need hand coloring and torn paper borders attached, Giclee prints that need to be matted) My assistant has just informed me that he is sick (throwing up). Scott hurt his hand very badly a week ago, and cant do a lot of stuff either. crap, crap, crap. Oh well....I KNOW I'll get it all done. Just needed to whine a little! |

Poor guy IS going to have to do some of it, puke or no puke . The ony sick leave we have around here is "dont bleed or puke ON the artwork." Miss Jenny (my niece) will probably get drafted into some shrink-wrapping. Uh...no on the homeless person . As far as the Mom goes, OOOH Mrs J????? Id normally also try to draft Liz into some slave labor, but SHE does Girdwood too...so she has her own whinny panic going on right now! Thanks all, for the sympathy! |
I hope you sell it all and take deposits on more! |
Hang in there!! Hopefully you'll get rewarded by a fun weekend w/good weather and lots of sales!! |
I'll be right over! Gosh, how I'd love to help...unfortunately, I'm a little far out!....uh...that is to say....I live far away...lol.
I've found that somehow things tend to work out in the end...of course, many hours of work...try to get some rest also so YOU don't get sick and can still smile at your customers. BIG HUGS!!! Know that this is all because you are so talented...if you weren't you wouldn't have to do all that! Silver lining outlook |
Just when I was feeling totally worthless - I read your
post. Those are things that I actually CAN do! If I could afford the time and the ticket I'd be on my way. You'll get it done - you'll be beat, but you'll be ok. When I hit the deadlines like that I made a pot of coffee, grabbed my headphones and told everyone to just leave me alone. Actually, I think that's pretty much how I got through college too. It will all work out fine. Just think, in a week it will all be behind you. Shellie |
>>>Grabs Raven's head and gives her noogie.
Okay Raven...when the going gets tough, the tough get going. You go girl!! It's going to try your patience and you may want to rest ...but keep going. You'll get it done!!! Whew is that okay for a pep talk? We're all here for you!!! Marianne |
Now may not be the time, but maybe you could round up a few ladies at the local Senior Center for future jobs. There's some very talented people sitting around in those places just longing for something constructive to do.

Send me a plane ticket and I will be there to help. Gosh I love arty stuff and fairs.
Sorry to hear all that is going on, just don't panick and small steps to hopefully get it all done for the big event. A good slug of wine too, while you work. Laurel it will still be great, even if you don't end up getting all done before hand, I love your artwork and always in awe at what you create. Hugs, stiff drink and onward and upwards to the big event. |
Thanks everybody!
Well, its midnight here, and I'm calling it a night. Scott got a lot of the frames assembled, my silk paper collages are all done (accept for two that still need beadwork done on them), the torn papering is finished, and I only left myself two hand coloring pieces to do tomarrow morning. WHEW!!! The pep talks, hugs and noogies REALLY helped! |
YAY LAUREL....WE KNEW YOU COULD DO IT!!! :cheer: |
GOOD JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now go make money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

AWESOME!!! |
Its 6pm on Wednsday....and the artwork and framing are DONE!!!
Now I just have a gazzillion shrink wraps to do Scott just left with the trailer, to get it set up in our camp site, then he'll come back home and he and Nathan (my assistant) get to pack up all the booth lumber and artwork into the truck. Im excited about being able to camp at Girdwood this year, since we have a new trailer, and can take the pups! Should be fun! Girdwood Forest Fair is a music festival as well as an art fair, and there is good music and dancing pretty much all night long on Friday and Saturday. Who needs sleep? Wish us LUCK!!! |
