Here I am on the way up north, at Grand Canyon with my dad. (Mom labeled this picture incorrectly in the photo section) We learned an important thing on this trip - National Park policy is not dog friendly. However, most of the National Park employees are dog friendly and will look the other way as long as you're in a quiet area. We went to the East entrance of the Grand Canyon which is far from the main village, and there were quite a few dogs enjoying the view. By the way, National Forests allow leashed dogs so we did our hiking there. Finally! We arrive at Signal Mountain Lodge in Grand Tetons National Park. We have THE BEST cabin - right on the shore of the lake. I played in the lake with my friends every day! (Dogs are not allowed off leash in National Parks. We broke that rule a lot. Good thing we were all so well behaved and no one complained about us.) This is my favorite cousin, Guinness. She's a Bernese Mountain dog and is only a year old, so she liked to play with me all day. Even though I'm bigger, she had a lot of good moves like this one. Here's my cousin Baguette out in the kayak with her dad. She's a golden retriever so she loves the water. Sometimes she just jumps out of the kayak and swims along! Here are two of my other cousins, Lucy and Timmy, out on a hike with me. All of my aunts brought great treats! Here we are lined up for another snack: WOW! I met another sheepie! This is Bisbee, he's from Idaho. He's 12, so he didn't want to play too hard, but was happy to come in the lake and cool off. This is Badger - the hardest working dog in the Grand Tetons. He goes out with the trail rides and is trained to warn the cowboys of bears in the area. He ran along with the trail ride for two hours, crossing streams and scouting ahead of the riders. He's taking a well deserved break at the end of the ride! A beautiful sunset! I'm sure going to miss this place and all of my new friends when I go home! Maybe Mom will let me bring a few of these chipmunks with me so I can chase them at home... On the way back home we stopped at Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. It was really cool! Then a Park Ranger told us that I wasn't allowed on the trails so we went back. I guess it was about time the law caught up to me - after 9 days and 3 National Parks! Mom and Dad made it to a fourth - Yellowstone - but left me at the Lodge with my cousins while they were out driving around. What a great trip! But after all of that adventure, it's nice to be back home napping in my favorite spot. |

Wow, that looks like a LOT of fun!
The pictures are great, so I can just imagine how beautiful it was in real life. |
Wonderful pictures! Brings back memories from my trip. I was completely afraid to let my dogs offleash at Signal Mtn Lodge -- the staff were pretty adamant that I must not ever have them offleash and that the dogs may not go in the water. I am so glad your pack all had such a good time. The pictures are really beautiful. |
Wow, what great pics! Bailey, it looks like you had a fabulous vacation!
What a lucky boy you are! |
Bailey: What a wonderful vacation you had. I really enjoyed looking at your pics and sharing your trip. Thank you. |
Great pictures but Baily, why didn't YOU get to go in the Kayak???????????????? |
Val, SML made us sign a dog policy specifically stating that we wouldn't let the dogs off leash, as per National Park policy. I don't think we would have gotten away with it if we didn't have the right cabin - we had the unit that was right on that beach, so most of the time there was no one around to tell on us. Whenever there were other families in the water we kept the dogs on leash - unless they had dogs too!
Ginnie, Bailey likes the water as long as he can see the bottom. He doesn't swim, he just splashes along the edge. So there was no way we could get him in that kayak! Here is Bailey supervising the trip from his perch on the back seat: And here's a better picture of Bisbee, the sheepie from Idaho. Bisbee had never met another sheepie before! He had just gotten his summer haircut. |

And isn't Bryce just spectacular? Bryce Canyon is amazing. The pictures don't even come close to capturing the beautiful colors and formations. The hiking trails looked fantastic - I may make Tim go back up there without Bailey one weekend so we can explore. |
I know I posted a reply before...but I think my fingers are too quick. Your pictures are BEAUTIFUL! I'm glad you are having so much fun! |
I just love the sunset picture. Very nice. The last one with mommy looks great too.
All the dogs you met along the way are cuties! The one where your aunt is handing out treats made me laugh b/c it looks like you're looking down to make sure that collie doesn't run off with that toy ...that or making sure there are not treats hidden under it |
Wow, what a fun vacation! Wonderful pictures. Bailey looks so cute with his longer hair. That sure looked like the kind of wonderful vacation you'd want to do again. |
