I LOVE my new laptop! :hearts:

pros: curling up on the couch with the pups while I read the OES Forum :D ....taking my computer with me to art fairs! 8) ...not taking up precious studio space with a desk.

cons: Still have to use Hubby's desktop for some of the business stuff.
...thats about it!
I prefer desktops for most things... a laptop is ok if you have to travel with it, or want to move it around the house a lot, but not as much functionality if you want to do more with it than just email and surf. Most laptops are catching up in performance, but not as durable.
I have both lap and desktop and found once I got used to the laptop I was as comfortable with it as my desktop.I do a lot of digital painting, and did do taxes, both corporate and personal on my computers and was able to do everything the same on both of them . :D
I have a desktop only. I would love to have a laptop for it's portability.
The only thing stopping me is cheapness. Laptops don't last like the desktops do.

I have had this same Compaq desktop forever (for 10-12 yrs!) , and it still runs great. There is no laptop that would come close to it in durability.
I have both, with the laptop ordered as a desktop replacement (larger screen, memeory and RAM). It isn't particularly lightweight, but that wasn't the main concern for me. I can edit video or photos, have several programs open at once. It is my third laptop (the first dying of old age, the second was a lemon and this one is perfect).

My daughter is starting PT school in the Fall and required to have a laptop for class. There were certain specs that we had to follow and programs to load. At the same time, we ordered an identical laptop for my eldest - who is working on his MBA. they were very interested in the weight of the computer and the size of the hard drive.
The middle child isn't required to have a laptop for school, but wants one for his games and work (Software Engineer), so we told him that we will give him the same amount of money that we spent on his sibs' computers and he can put it toward his monster laptop (Alienware is not cheap).

My husband is on the computer all day at work and avoids them at home, though he does have one.
It really depends on what you want to do with it and how much you want to spend. I configured my own laptop that work paid for. It's pretty good but I'd NEVER spend that amount of money on a laptop if it were my own money! It's a good machine for most things but it's still pretty lame for graphic design or a lot of gaming. I've actually gotten pretty good at actually using the mousepad to do design stuff but what I really miss is having a dual monitor setup.
