But just for an example, last night my husband was laying on the couch, petting Mater. If my daughter even tried to sit next to my husband Mater g rowled at her. Also, a good friend of mine lives behind me connected by a fence, so we will stand at the fence and talk alot. Mater paces back and forth between me and the fence which is find, I see that as him protecting me but then he just walk up and for no reason will mouth me, my son or my daughter. HELP I'm really at my wits end with him but I know the growling is the first step with the next one biting and I really don't want one of my kids getting hurt. |

marley has some issues like this - very little growling, just usually goes right into barking. when she does growl I tell her no (loudly and firmly) if she continues she goes into a sit or a down with me between her and what every she was growling at. It takes time and consistancy but now usually a sound from me is all it takes to stop her. |
Mater thinks "he's the boss" and you need to get the behavior under control or you may have some serious problems on your hands. Have you taken obedience classes with him? I suggest you look into the "Nothing in Life is Free" dog training method and read the book "Dog Listener" by Jan Fennel.
A dog should never be allowed to growl at it's humans, that is dangerous and unacceptable behavior. A toy that he is possessive of should be taken away. |
