At my meeting this morning, I'm so happy (and proud) to report, I've lost 32.2 pounds! I'm 8 pounds away from my goal. I tend to be very outspoken, and not a bit shy, and today my leader approached me about going to work for "the company" when I reach my goal. I think I really like that idea, but first things, first. When I started I was wearing a size 18, which was very tight, and I probably should have gone up a size, but just refused. Today, I bought some really cute caprees, size 12! I have been faithfully using my treadmill, 3 - 4 times a week, which I know has helped me termendously. My treadmill helps me burn fat. BUT! I need to move on the next step, which is joining the gym and getting my flabby self toned. I have NEVER been an athelete...in any sense of the word. The gym is not cheap, and I am! I'm so afraid I will fail. I know I've come to the point where I have to work tough, and be sore and build my 57 year old muscles into some sort of good....no make that, great shape. It may sound like a silly fear, but its a fear of committment, and a fear of failing. When I got the treadmill (instead of a diamond tennis bracelet for my birthday!) I was really concerned about that. I still hate it, but I know I have to do it. And, I can do it at my home. Not a big committment. So...here I am at crossroads. Do I look fear in the eye and say "Stand back, buddy. I'm here to take you on!" or do I just keep on keeping on with what I'm doing, and accept my flabby middle aged body? Yes, I know the answer. But I really need some support here. The gym I would join is afflitated a hospital and offers all sorts of cool things. Trainers, nutritiousist, classes...in fact, there are several Zumba classes thoughout the week! Come on guys....give me the push I need! Thanks! |

Deb, the gym is a great idea!! I used to work out faithfully 3x's a week for an hour and a half...when the kitchen remodel started, I let the gym membership lapse and got lazy....not to mention that all my clothes didnt fit the same any more.
I rejoined on Friday and I am back on track. Just to preface...I HATE working out..hate hate hate!!! Its the toned look and how I feel AFTERWARD that keeps me going. You will make new friends and gain a better appreciation for what your body can do AND what it can look like. Go for it!! and with every pump of iron, you may repeat my mantra..." I HATE THIS, I HATE THIS, I HATE THIS...." |
Get into the gym! If you don't think you can handle the gym yet, Curves works great and it is only a 1/2 hour a day and not real expensive. You use machines and it really puts you into great shape in a very short period of time. Good luck with your program!!! |
Do it Deb!! Go to the Gym!!
It'll make you feel better and once you start going, you'll wonder what you were ever worried about before. You'll look fab, you'll be healthier...Do IT!! |
Once you have paid to join the gym, it would be a TERRIBLE waste of money not to go. I think go pay for it, then I'm sure you will use it!! I hate working out too- it's sooo boring. How about dance classes or something different?

Cassie...the program I'm looking at, is cancellable with a 45 day notice (hate and love those safety clauses!). And...they offer tons and tons of different classes (ie: Zumba, spin, muscle building, pilates, water exercize ((yes, there is a pool and sauna)) kickboxing, etc) for the regular membership price. Wish me luck...I'm telling Tony when he gets back from his errands!!! EEEK |
Well, in that case... GO FOR IT!!! YOU CAN DO IT!! |
Wow! I didn't know you had lost so much weight. That is fantastic!!! Try to find a workout buddy to help you get to the gym. Or have your daughter call you every day to tell you to go to the gym..you'll feel guilty later when she calls to check up on you and you didn't go |
Deborah, I'm very proud of you. I never would have guessed you were a size 18. I agree with everyone--join the gym. I have a feeling you'll get hooked on it since there are several options for exercising. Maybe Tony will join also. (except he'd have to use the boy's locker room.)
And if you don't get into it, you can always quit and try something else. |
Deb - you are doing such a great job of getting fit. You really should join the gym while your momentum is high and just keep going!! I'm really proud of you for making it happen! Bravo!! |
Thanks all! Great encouragement!!!!!!! Tony and I talked yesterday, and he, too was supportive. He's worried I won't use my treadmill anymore, however. But I explained, I'm not joining the gym to use their treadmill! And I will use mine on non-gym days. That will help keep all the exercise fresh. I'm going (for the first time) tomorrow morning at 5. At 5:30 there a Muscle tone class, for all fitness levels...I guess that's me! I have a free week pass, so I will use that up before I pay. Once I pay, they will hook me up with a trainer. I asked for least personable, most business-like trainer, since I have the tendency to chat too much . The counselor laughed, and said, "Oh, I have just the right person for you!!!" After I'm official, they will give me a physical. Heart stress test and a battery of blood work. Then I will have 2 - 1 hour evaluation and programming sessions with the trainer, who for now, shall be refered to as "The Devil" . So...this week, I'm going to do the muscle class tomorrow and Saturday morning, and Thursday afternoon, I'm going to a Zumba class...gosh! I hope I survive that! Oh..yea...today and Wednesday...my beloved treadmill is on my schedule!! Thanks again |
Well, I'm impressed! |
Go Deborah |
I'm exhausted just reading your schedule! |
Good for you, Deb!!!!!!
Which health club are you joining, Lake Forest's, or Condell's? I belonged to the Centre Club across from Jewel on Grand Ave. a couple of years ago, and their classes are FABULOUS!!! Way to go!!!!!! Laurie |
Yes, its the Centre Club. I had belonged there when they first open, but I broke my ankle and had to quit ! (No, not there). Its a really beautiful club...all they need is a bar! |
Well...I made it! I went to my first class. Right now, I feel great. But...I think my orginal schedule was pretty ambitious!!!! Looks like I'm going to be joining! Thanks again! |
