This is the technique I'm using for Sampson. Any time I take him out of his crate, I take him directly outside. I wait about 5 minutes and if he doesn't pee or poop, I bring him back inside, and put him back into his crate. I wait 30 minutes and repeat this, until he actually pees or poops (or both), and when he does go pee or poop outside, I then give him about 10 to 15 minutes of playtime on the floor. (I'd give him longer, but at this age, that 10 to 15 minutes really wears him out). Then he takes a nap in his crate, and we start over again when he wakes up. This really seems to work. The only time he had an accident in the house so far was when my daughter let him out of the crate and sat him on the floor while trying to attach his leash to take him outside. I have now made it a rule that no one can set him down in the house unless they are bringing him back inside and he has just peed or pooped outside. Does anyone know the youngest age at which a dog can be potty trained? I know right now he really can't control his bladder much (although he does great in his crate). |

How old is Sampson? I had a 12 week old that potty trained very quickly. He also had another dog to follow outside. I just took him out around every two hours...eventually I was trained!! LOL! |
Sampson is 6 weeks old (I'm babysitting him for the next 2 weeks). He's a very bright boy... I'm trying to figure out a way to switch him for a stuffed animal when it comes time to give him back, lol. |
